About Recievers
A AV receiver takes both sound and picture then decides what to do with it.There are 2 types of AV receivers:
- Receivers
- DVD Receivers
Standard Receivers
A normal receiver or called ‘receiver’ does 3 main things: Switching between audio/video signals, Decoding/Processing of sound and Amplification (for your speakers).
This allows you to plug in lots of different AV equipment such as a Sky boxes, game consoles, DVD players, etc. all at the same time. Now when you want to change your input all you have to do is press one button and your audio/video will change.
An AV receiver will produce better sound than the TV with support for 5.1/6.1/7.1 etc. An AV receiver will normally be at the heart of most home cinema systems because of the amount of work it does, usefulness and easiness it provides to a user. Afteral who wants to unplug cables behind a TV if you have 5 or 6 different things?

DVD Receivers
DVD Receiver offers the same features has a normal receiver but with an additional DVD player. This sounds good but often leads to a smaller amplifier and a higher chance of something going wrong (often DVD players need to be replaced).
