Today, Frontier official announced that Elite: Dangerous will be released for Xbox One (official post here). Players from both the PC and Xbox will be able to play together in the same the universe with cross-play.

Its understandable why Frontier have decided on the console port. Extra money is extra money and both the PS4/Xbox One are practically PC's (using a x64 code).

Myself, I find the news a little unsettling. Patch 1.2 brings in some nice improvements - wings, chat overhaul, 2 more ships etc. however I still feel the game needs more content and lacking in some areas:

[*] lack of scalable missions/bounties (given up taking missions in a Anaconda),
[*] A bit of a lacking ship roster (even after v1.2 only 17 - we could do with another 10!+),
[*] no plot/story (although not that big of deal in a MMO/space-sim),
[*] lack in mission diversity (deliver cargo, or kill)
    [*] no planet landing,
    [*] disappointing mining,

I make no bones about it, Elite: Dangerous does have a solid base but needs more. I hope this doesnt lead in a shift of-focus, dropping PC users for console users. In the past few months Frontier have been showing good signs that they wish to improve the experience with meaningful patches. Maybe its just me (or from previous experiences) but some of the console ports havnt been the best for the PC users. I guess if done correctly it might be a good thing? more players, the merrier? maybe a reason for Frontier to develop the game much further? I do hope Frontier will drop DLC because of this news.

So how do you feel about it all? either vote below, or post your comments. I am eager to know what you think about it all. edge has already created a thread on the forum about this here.
