The Old Guy
So I'm tooling around the Paranid sector of Cardinal's Domain.
Just as I decide to leave the sector via the East Gate (there wasn't much going on in the sector), a Boron Ray (M2) enters from the East Gate with a Thresher (M7) in escort, plus a small group of M3's and other smaller craft.

I thought, after getting my Tiger (M7) out of their way, "These guys are a long way from home". So I move to the NE part of the sector to see what might happen.
A Ray/Thresher combo is a fearsome pairing. I've seen the same grouping used in attacks on Split sectors.
The Boron fleet heads toward the Equipment Dock near the middle of the sector.

When the Boron are about 1/2 way to the ED, a Split Raptor (M1) enters from the same East Gate. She has nothing in escort, and doesn't launch any fighters.
Now, less then a (game) day earlier, I watched a hell of a fire-fight between both these factions in Contorted Dominion.
This could get ugly really quick!

The Boron 'seem' to react a little to the Raptor's presence. Both of the capital ships change direction and move north toward the Shipyard.
The Raptor moves in the direction of the Equipment Dock. The Boron's small escort craft seem to get a little agitated.

The Raptor moves near the Equipment Dock, makes a few small maneuvers and then docks at the ED.

What happened next was the most surprising thing I've seen in an X3 game...
The Boron Ray heads toward the ED with Thresher and fighters in tow...
She DOCKS with the Equipment Dock!!!!!

She remains docked for only a few seconds, but both the Boron Ray and the Split Raptor are docked at the station at the same time!

The Boron fleet then moves to the North Gate and leaves the sector.
Just before they hit the Gate, the Raptor leaves the Equipment Dock and heads for the West Gate.

Might be that while in a 'neutral' sector, warring races don't do battle with each other.
Might be that there is a newly formed truce between them.

Could be any number of good reasons why these two groups didn't begin to exchange fire.
But it surprised the hell out of me to see both these capital ships docked at the same time when just a (game) day earlier they would have tried to send each other to the Great Maker.

Anyone got any weird or strange sightings they want to report?

It's not what someone has done..it's about what they are about to do!

Oh that does sound very odd. Maybe the actual owner race of both fleets was the same?

In a different sector, say a border system or a pirate system, those 2 fleets would likely have beaten the snot out of each other. For some reason though the vast majority of the games AI controlled ships behave themselves in core sectors.

For instance, if you do the Unholy Traitor or Bankrupt Assassin starts, both of which pit you against Bounty Hunters from the word 'Go', the BH ships will only appear in Pirate/Border systems. Stay in the Core sectors until you've got your ship sorted and there's no problem.

So, yeah, I reckon it's just because you were in Cardinals Domain. If it had been a sector away in any direction, putting you in either Pirate or Paranid border space, they would have gone for it.

hmm.. I guess its possible that border sectors do have an effect on ships. Hard to know without going through the AI scripts - which isnt much fun :p

One fun thing I saw once was a Khaak fleet, consisting of 2 destroyers, a carrier, a number of corvette escorts and a scary amount of fighters, had decided to raid Black Hole Sun........ during a Xenon incursion. As I quickly learned, the xenon and khaak do not like each other, AT ALL.

A squadron of 3 Qs, with a complement of mainly Ms as a fighter escort, redirected towards the carrier and proceeded to tear it a new one, while the fighters battled around them. (I also learned that a squad of xenon M vs a mix of khaak scouts and fighters is a pretty even match, as they both have high speed, hard-hitting weaponry, so kill each other quickly) The Qs then moved onto the two destroyers, but floundered against their heavier shields, and proceeded to die to many many B/GKEs. The remaining xenon fleet: 2 Ks, a series of Ps and another bucketload of Ms, moved to intercept. They managed to blow up both Destroyers due to their superior anti-cap weaponry, but not without losing one K and all of the escort Ps to laser spam from the khaak corvettes and remaining scouts/fighters.

The K and it's fighters then proceeded to mop up the left over khaak scouts, fighters and the occasional corvette. As they emerged triumphant from their latest skirmish, they turned about to cause havoc in the populated sector, only to run slap bang into the Argon Response Fleet, numbering of a Titan, two escort Cerberus' and about a million Novas, who had been patiently waiting for a victor to emerge. It's safe to say that the Xenon didn't get to celebrate for long...

I just thought it was weird how both fleets arrived very close together (time wise), and then immediatly engaged each other, and also how the argon fleet passing through decided to wait until the battle was finished before they engaged the survivors. I had to bring in several transports to pick up the loot....

My Springblossom (M6) somehow docked inside of a hangar at (I believe) a Boron shipyard, one of those new ones with hangars. I exploded promtly after undocking. Later that day I also found myself docked sideways at a regular docking boom, and again, exploded. Sucks because I had to backtrack two auto-save files. I was using the docking computer. I haven't had any problems since then.

I found on the undocking exploding situation, simple buy a m5get in it undock then have the m6 undock R transfer over then eather resell or Redock the fighter for.later

The trick is that you have to let the CPU undock for you, because the hit boxes are somehow different with NPC ships. The trick that Scott suggested should work fine, just keep an escort fighter with you, or keep one permanently docked at a station you regularly dock at.

Okay, so there I was flying through the sector Heretic's End in a freshly captured Cobra M7M looking for another target, preferably one of the Terran big boys, when out of the jumpgate behind me comes a Boron Megalodon. I thought it slightly odd to find it alone in the war sector, especially since I hadn't finished The Hub plotline, so the Boron Weren't at war with the Terrans. Up ahead I noticed an ATF fleet consisting of 1 Tyr, 1 Odin, 3 Aegirs, 1 or 2 M6s, can't remember which, and a small handful of fighter craft.

I watched curiously as the Megalodon advanced towards the ATF fleet telling myself it wasn't going to attack, but still sitting there with a hopeful grin. The megalodon aimed at the center of the ATF fleet and flew right in, ions blazing, gunfire everywhere, it looked beautiful! It took the ATF a second or two to realize what was happening, but they started to return fire, and I was sure that the Megalodon wasn't going to last very long. It landed some brutal hits on the Tyr, bringing the shields down and damaging the hull only slightly, so I launched my boarding pods while I watched. The Megalodon continued ripping the ATF a new one, blowing up the Odin, and one of the Aegirs, leaving another seriously wounded. The Megalodon continued forward, ignoring the ATF fleet behind it and continuing towards a Kyoto just ahead, which it proceeded to beat senseless, and promptly left as a Terran quick response fleet arrived.

I found this engagement odd because
A: The Boron aren't supposed to be at war with the Terrans until after The Hub plot is completed.
B: The AI piloting was waaaay above average for what I've seen before.
C: It's timing was perfect, attacking the ATF, beating the Kyoto, and leaving, just beautiful!

Either way though, I won't argue, I gained an ATF Tyr that day ROFL
+100 respect for the Boron!

If my mission goal was pissing off the entire ATF fleet, then consider it a success!

This is a Terran Conflict forum, by the way. It seems implausible a Boron battleship could outgun an ATF fleet, even if by suprise. If the computer is sensible, then the Kyoto was obviously the target, perhaps the ATF was just in the way. Maybe the owner wasn't actually the Boron navy, but a corporation.

Ack, sorry, got the board mixed up, my bad Bricks
It didn't so much stop to engage them as much as just blow through 'em though. I think you're right about the Kyoto, that must've been the target.

It's possible the ATF fleet was running under-shielded, it happens occasionally. I took out an Argon Military Centaur a couple days ago that was running with just 2x 5Mj shields Wink

As for the Mega attacking the ATF ships, it could be that the ship (or another Boron ship in the sector) got attacked making the Mega hostile. It could even be that the ship wasnt owned by the Boron's at all. Hard to say.

Undersielding might've been it, I've been running into that alot lately, particularly in terran ships, but I only really took notice now that you said something. I happened uppon a Kyoto that was only using 1GJ shields instead of the usual 2GJ shields.

As for the Mega, there were quite a few fighter craft around the jumpgate, I wasn't paying great attention mainly because of the ATF fleet, but it very well might have gotten into the brawl and a fight ensued.

Hmm, blowing up an Odin and an Aegir, but only taking out the Tyr's sheilds. Well, it's beyond me. And still, targeting the Kyoto but not destroying it... You attributed this to the ATF reinforcements?
