Cool, thanks for the tip. I think Teladi/Argon Trading stations can dock 10 M6's, so I might make the Rapid Response Fleet technique with 10 Dragons all with 8 EBC, 4 PBG and about 50-100 Typhoons, then just tell them to restock everything at the Trade station! Yay!

Sounds like a plan. You know Argon and Teladi trading stations also have internal fighter docking, so they have infinite slots for M3/4/5. If you're going to use a fighter wing as well (I do, 50 Mamba Vanguards packing 4x HEPT + 4X PAC), you can equip them all with jumpdrives and have them restock their ammo/jump fuel/missiles automatically. I give mine 50 energy cells, so each of my military firebase' can cover a large area.

Yup, just the technique I was talking about! LOL Just combine a load of fighters into wings then use the auto jump feature to provide near instant back up! I may use Mamba's, or I may be boring and use Nova Raiders; but I know for sure that as soon as I get my PHQ set up I'm going to use Venti's, probably equipped with 8 EBC and 2 PBG's, I'd have about 6 or 7 wings of 10. Gotta love the Venti's!

Yeah, Venti's would be sick as hell, especially if used OOS. 500 guns on target? WIN! Big grin

Uh, the Cerberus idea wasn't great. For whatever reason, the 3 GJ of sheilding didn't hold well against the Khaak corvettes that swarmed in. I had FAA's installed, which chewed up those small craft, but I barely escaped the sector with my sheilds up.

I can't actually wait to do that idea with the Venti's, but I haven't even got one yet, bloody OTAS ranking, I'm at lvl 5, nearly lvl 6 and they keep giving me missions to get them 10-20 typhoons, when the whole X universe can summon up about 4, Grrrrrr.

@DangerClose: The Cerberus didn't work!?! Wow, that's impressive... Well at least it's a good ship to have around, great M2 escort. Right, 2 suggestions, if you really want to pwn the khaak, take a Shrike with Guass on the sides, ISR on the front (Khaak Corvettes have bad generators), FAA on the top + bottom and whatever you want on the back, then bring the Cerberus with you for extra Flak, that will do well. The cheaper alternative is that you jump into the sector in something crap (like a TS or TP), then get your Cerberus to jump in, switch ships, then jump your crap one out; this means that when the game generates the enemies, I will put in enemies that would be difficult for TP to kill, but would be pips for an M7. That SHOULD work, but don't count me on it...

Mate, build a Typhoon factory! They're one of the best med-large ship missiles you can get! Every non fighter military ship in my mature games carry them, as I consider them essential for M6 to survive in sector combat against larger enemies. I do have 15 factories pumping them out though Wink

It won't work. Enemies spawned by any combat mission are based on the player's Fight Rank. There was a time, before the TC 2.6 patch where <playership> was also taken into account, but that has since been patched out. I don't think it was ever part of the AP coding.

Damn, they did get rid of that... I know it still factors in what ship for for the Comms Mission difficultly though, if you accept a passenger transport mission in an Aran, it will give you about 3 hours to transport them to a station one sector away. Ahhh well, DangerClose, just go with my initial idea, and get yourself a nice Shrike, then use the Cerberus as an escort, that's basically what its designed for....

I suppose I'll have to build a typhoon fab then, I'm just kind of reluctant to because in my current game I don't have a single M6 that can use one yet, the only ship I do have that can take them currently is my elephant, and I'm not really going to pit that against M6's yet, I don't have any IBLs and a grand total of 4 decent fighters. I'm still using a bloody Zephyrus as my main run-around ship!!

A Shrike is pretty much 'teh bomb' for the Final Fury plot anyway, I've completed it so many times in my old faithful Wink

You don't have any Commonwealth M6 RandomTank? As far as I'm aware Typhoons fit every non Terran M6 in the game.

No commonwealth M6's for me Cry. I've spent all my credits on an elephant, equipping more UTs and starting off a couple of Crystal Fabs for a future XL solar power plant; so I can't afford to buy anything at the min. I've been trying to cap some M6's, but all I find is hydras, which I don't like; Unbelieveably, I found a pirate Heavy Dragon the other day so I got ready to board it, had my TP in position, was just moving my Vidar in to drop its shields, and a bloody Split Tiger on patrol goes and kills it... Damn him! I didn't have a save to fall back on either...

There were a lot more baddies when I jumped in on my Cerberus than when I used my Springblossom. And I did complete the mission, but only by the skin of my teeth. Should I get different weapons for typical anti-fighter use rather than anti-Khaak purposes?

Honestly, ATTACKING khaak isn't too much different to fighting normal ships, it's just the defence that is different. Because of their insta-hit weapons, they obviously hit with many more shots than, say, the average pirate; and because the projectile velocity is sooo high, you can't strafe dodge them either. This means you can't have the 'Invincible Mamba' against khaak, because your speed doesn't work as an effective defence, and then your reduced shield health just works against you. I know most of this is obvious, but the gist of it all is that slower but heavier shielded ships work much better, as they can take more punishment.

As for weaponry, you don't have to change very much off the norm; khaak fighters are pretty averagely shielded, so flaks do very well against them; of course because of their increased number of ships, AOE weapons like PSG's, PBG's and Shotguns (CFA) excel against them. This means that ships like Deimos and the Agememnon are fantastic against Khaak, but I don't really like them otherwise, but that's up to you.

As for missiles, weeeell..... They're effectiveness is severely reduced, so unless you are spamming swarm missiles, single missiles aren't really gonna get through. Don't get me wrong, there are places where they are invaluable, like launching a hornet at a cluster at about 6km, then getting closer so just as they split up, the missile hits and kills the entire cluster (I've done that a few times in my elephant, it's sooooo satisfying taking a whole cluster out with one missile).

Conclusion? Heavy shields, AOE weapons, and be more careful with your missiles, as they rarely work to full effectiveness...

It's possible that it works differently because it's a plot mission, and the Final Fury plot is designed to push the player's fight rank up as high as possible.

My only gripe with the Cerberus is the lack of shielding. The Shrike carries an extra 1Gj and has the advantage of a massive anti capital punch with Gauss Cannons in the left and right rurrets. I actually finished the Khaak Guardians by rolling a load of Typhoons at them from ~30km out, then closing on the stations to finish them with GC and IBL fire Big grin

The Deimos is a beast. Fit it with PSGs everywhere it can fit and it'll take down Ks with minimal effort Wink

Yeah I know the Deimos is good, and I know its lots of PSG's can PWN anything, but I... don't know. I've never really been a fan of PSG's, or even Paranid ships for that matter; even since the days of X2 (which I have to say, I have a lot of experience with) I never really liked them. Of course I tried the completely broke Perseus with 3 BPSG's, and I know full well that you could take on most of a Xenon sector with it, but is somehow didn't like it; I much preferred the Nova, I felt much better when I killed a K with a Nova than when I did the same with a Perseus, maybe its more of a sense of accomplishment. Still loved the 250m/s Raptor filled with 150 Novas escorted by 16 Osprey's (leaving the Osprey's in my dust was also fun too Big grin). The only Paranid ships I have ever really used properly is Demeters, the X2 Pegasus, and the Hyperion, and I rarely put PSG's on that thing either....

Maybe i'm just biased against Paranid ships?

Same here, like you said the only Paranid ship which ive liked are the Hyperion and Persus Proto. I also dont like the spammy PSG's either.
