Deadly Space 3

What is Deadly Space 3 (DS3)?
X3: The way that you have always wanted it to be.
Caution: After experiencing the fun and new challenges of DS3, vanilla X games may seem boring and lack luster in comparison.
- Superior balance.
- All-Star Favorite Features; the best from the community. (Credits)
- Compatible (with most things that work with the vanilla game).
- All TC&AP plots, plus more quests and missions.
- Familiar universe but...
- ...New things to see and do. New enemies to fight. New ships, stations, and features.
- Main Menu controls most new features. (Main Menu)
- As Deadly as you like (configurable combat challenge).
- Bonus Pack built in (and improved; see Features page).
It includes the complete collection of DrBullwinkle's work, as well as some new tricks that have not been previously released.
Plus many of our favorite features from other authors.
Balance
We like the vanilla game and its balance, mostly. It is professionally balanced and provides a better gameplay experience than some other mods we have tried.
So we have preserved the excellence of the vanilla balance, with a few specific enhancements (which we hope that you will enjoy).
For example, we sped up most bullets to make it harder to avoid them, but we did not make them so fast that improving your piloting skills becomes pointless.
In fact, in Deadly Space, learning good flying skills is more important than in either the vanilla game or in some other mods.
Missiles are faster and more deadly, but there are fewer types to keep track of. Most ships will only mount a few different missiles, which makes missile selection much easier.
TS freighters are stronger; harder to capture. TPs have enough firepower to handle a few enemy fighters. Many "plus" ships are truly superior to their regular counterparts. Ejected astronauts are now worthwhile to collect. And more.
We took some of the tediousness out of boarding, without reducing the challenge.
We added better ways to get around the 'verse, but made it harder to avoid enemies.

Familiar
You do not have to learn a whole new game. Ships, weapons, missiles, and sectors all have familiar names that you have grown to love (or not).
Their overall functions are similar, as well. However, we have made many small enhancements that make the game more fun.
Compatible
We followed the rules for maintaining compatibility with other scripts and mods, so that you can use your favourites with Deadly Space.
Part of the fun of X is being able to customize it the way that you want it to be.
New Ships, Stations, Sectors, Features
While keeping old things familiar, we have added over 200 new ships, some new stations, over 80 new sectors, some new eye candy, and many new features.
Perhaps more importantly, I have integrated all of the new features rather than merely dropping them into the mod. Names are more consistent. Most features are available on the (new) Main Menu (General Tab). I have set better defaults, moved hotkeys to menus, and, cleaned up things that needed cleaning up. The overall look and feel is much nicer than a game made up of a bunch of scripts and mods.
Plots, Missions, Quests, and Stuff To Do
We like to have things for the player to do, so we have incorporated the familiar plots and missions from TC and AP, and have added some unique ones of our own.
In addition to familiar station missions, X-Missions Reloaded is built in (on the Main Menu).
Stronger Enemies
The biggest weakness in the vanilla game is that combat is too easy by far. We have made some intelligent improvements here, including some features that are unique to our mod.
Combat Difficulty is adjustable at any time from a menu.
More Enemies
The Commonwealth may have destroyed the Kha'ak home sector in Terran Conflict, but a few survived. They are back again, with vengeance on their minds (to the extent that bugs have minds).
Bounty Hunters defend the peace, often with superior firepower.
Pirates are more dangerous.
Race Responses: A Better Way
Professional Bounty Hunters will chase down your pie-rat ass if you try to steal from the races.
Bounty Hunters are "contract employees", so you can kill them without clobbering your reputation with the race that sent them.
That is, if you can kill them. At higher fight ranks they will come in superior numbers and have superior equipment... killing them will not be as easy as it sounds!
Since Bounty Hunters are independents, you can kill them without trashing your race rep.
Bounty Hunters will not poach your mission targets, or create lag by generating AI-vs-AI fights that do not involved the player. AI doesn't care; only the player does.
Improvements
We fixed the vanilla features that just don't work correctly, and enhanced a few that are more tedious than necessary.
- Equipping ships is easier.
- Universe Traders, Explorers, and Miners do their jobs better, with fewer hassles.
- Claiming ships is streamlined... IF you can find the rare software (which is only sold on the black market -- by fixers who move around).
- "Tow Trucks" have a better Tractor Beam, so that they can tow abandoned ships to safety (no more need to transfer jump drives).
- Marines repair your ships, and can be trained while on-the-job.
- Searching for Pandora tuning crates and abandoned ships is more fun.
- Your PHQ can build stations as well as ships.
- Complex building is streamlined.
- Carrier fleet creation and maintenance is completely overhauled.
- And much more.
Surprises
We won't tell you everything here, but we do hope to surprise you with something fun from time to time.
Configurable
Many features can be configured on the menus. Turn off the features that you do not want.
