Performance Tips
Deadly Space 3 requires less CPU horsepower than the vanilla game.
The single largest performance improvement that can be made in any X3 mod is to reduce the number of bullets in flight at any moment. (It is more important than any script or mesh.)
Ulfius figured out an easy solution to that many years ago (original CMOD):
Decrease Rate of Fire; Increase Damage to compensate.
We have implemented that feature in the mod. Also, the faster bullet speeds in DS3 further reduce the number of bullets in flight at any time.
After reducing the number of bullets, the second most important performance factor in X3 is to reduce the number of ships in combat (especially In-Sector).
My "Combat Tricks" OBS does exactly that. It increases combat challenge by making you face larger ships than vanilla. At the same time, it reduces *number* of enemies generated.
Therefore, at high fight rank, you will not find yourself fighting hundreds of enemy fighters and a few capital ships. Instead, you will face more capital ships and fewer fighters; for a total reduction in the number of ships.
Features that can be disabled
However, some features of Deadly Space 3 require additional CPU horsepower. You can turn off the features to save some frame rate, if you desire. Some good candidates, if you experience performance issues, are:
- Shield Effects ALP (Artificial Life Plugin).
- XMR (Mission Assistant) ALP.
