Ships, Classes, Weapons

Intro

Simply put, I don't know where to begin. So it's natural to first write a couple lines with rambling and ideas. It is probably a good idea to read this, as I'm going to try and explain the filozofy behind the ships etc.

From this point on I'm going to asume you have some knowledge about the X universe or atleast X3 Reunion.

Here goes :D

So playing X3 Reunion you might have noticed that the ships and their classes are out of balance. The Xenon had no chance at all, and the player was pretty invincible in an M3, not to mention in an M3+ or the hyperion.

But there was more, there was no real need for the M6 class of ships, as they were way too weak. In the end the player could just reingeneer the hyperion, build a couple of them, and overtake the universe.

Well if you look for this, then I suggest looking elsewhere. Roguey's mod attacks this problems, and solves them. One of the things that one should keep in mind is that every single ship class has a role in battle. Even more every ship variant has a special role to fullfil in the general game, be it tanker, superfreighter, tender, raider, sentinel or any other variant.

Also it is good to rememmber that there are two ways to play the mod, with or without classic rules. The basic difference is that classic rules is even more balanced, and allows the player and AI to actually dogfight to get the shields up. Also classic rules makes most of the ships go a little faster, so you actually travel some space even without SETA. Classic Rules will be explained in the next chapter in greater detail. The concepts about ships/shield/weapons hold true for both ways.

Shields

"What do you call an argon without shield? Dead meat!". This is so very true as everyone will find out playing X3. Because shields are so important they come first here. So there are 6 shield classes in the normal game. Because the game had to be balanced more have been added. There are the aforementioned 500 and 800MJ shields and the Military variants. Below is an outline of each shield and which class it's used for mainly.

1MJ: This are the smallest shields. They don't protect from much, except space dust. This are used on M5 class ships exclusivelly. Through bear in mind that when you buy new ships in the shipyard they sometimes come equiped with those (the S variants).

5MJ: The standard fighter shields. They still don't take long with HEPTS to go away, but protect atleast a little. Some M5's use them, but they are mostly found on M4 ships. This are the ones you usually get with the M variants.

25MJ: Now we are talking shielding. Those shields protect for a little from HEPTS, while PAC's have a bit of work with those. This can be found on some M4's but that's rare. They are mainly used for M3 class fighters and TS/TP class transporter Ships.

125MJ: This shields are a serious now. They can take quite a few HEPTS and PAC's have serious troubles with them. This is the main shield class for M6's but is sometimes (through rarelly) used on M3/M3+ or TS's.

500MJ: Forget PAC's my friend. This shield class can be found mostly on M6+, but some M6's have them. They take quite a beating from HEPTS, and PPC's are recommended to take the down.

800MJ: now where my PPC's at?! This shield class is for M7's. It is used on M6+, but that's rare. This shields protect for quite a while from HEPT fire, and PPC's have to give it a couple of good shots too.

1GJ: Hornet's? GPPC? This shields can be taken from HEPTS, but it takes a long time, PPC fire is recommended, and a couple hornet missiles don't hurt either. This shields are used on M2/M1's.

10GJ: Gimme a darn nuke for this! This is the highest shield class and is used primarelly on M2's and M0's. This shields take a while even with PPC fire to fall.

Military Variants

The military shields are almost like regular, except that they fill special cases. These shields are used only on some M3/M3+/M4/M5 ships, designated for military use.

This ship types are recharging faster then normal shields, it should be noted through that they are very rare and usually the ship's equiping them don't take as many as their civilian types.

I might have forgotten something, but there are 10MJ and 75MJ military shields as far as I know. The Nova X can equip the 75MJ shield, so you might have guessed the 75MJ is for M3/M3+, and the 10 for the M4's.
