X3: Reunion - no ship speed!

I recently got the Thrustmaster TFlight Hotas One for the X3 Reunion game, and I set the Throttle control for ship speed. But in the game, the throttle control does nothing, no ship speed, no acceleration, no ship movement.

I did check the Hotas One controls thru the Control Panel Properties, and everything checked out fine, the joystick, throttle, all of it. I'll add that under the default settings, the throttle didn't work for ship speed, which is why I went to change it.

I don't understand what I did wrong. Why can't I get the throttle to activate the ship speed? Did I need to change something else? Would Hotas 4 be any different? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.
