Does anybody agree that, the x games should go online.

I agree - its the future of gaming but it would need a lot of thought. There would need to be more 'rules' and real policing of sectors. I think your stations should work without you logged in and if someone attacks you, then either people or AI ships need to help you otherwise people could simply dominate the whole universe and kill newbies.
The universe would have to be split into groups too, otherwise it would get rather crowded

I agree with you there, but they would have to have security rules, cause people could 'hack' it to get big ships. There should be rules on where you can kill other players. BUt it would not be good if everybody started with an m5

maybe one idea which would help is that some sectors would have a 'disarm' protocol, meaning you cant shot a laser or a missile. This would stop people from shooting other players and stations.

That's an idea. You could maybe have diffarant servers some P v P some not, or you could have a server in which, Pirate, Kha'ak and Xenon sectors are all P v P then all Argon, Boron, Taladi, Split and Paranid sectors are safe.

how about ramming them to ablivion with a collossus? hehehe
oh it should be online of course but its a headache like the boss man said. it'd take loads of thought. i was thinking if was done small scale. like max 20 players on a private server. say for example just us lot here. i dont have any idea how the killing of another players ships would work. maybe a massive co op game. i dunno

That's probably half the problem with X being online, the set sides.
I think the best way of doing this that a player chooses an alliance (all humans). Members of the alliance would help each other, gathering money to build up their ships and weapons. Each alliance could then attack each other to steal resources, stations or players. Every alliance would have a home sector, which is always safe and used for a re-spawn point for each player. A shipyard could dock 'free' ships which could be used by members of the alliance. ie. This alliance has 2 Titans, 1 M6 and a repair ship.
If an enemy alliance takes all the surrounding alliance sectors, then the losing side could surrender and join this winning alliance or another. To stop things getting out of hand, each alliance could have a maximum of 32 players. You could still have 'random' attacks from AI Khaak and Xenons.
Just think getting a SMS or something, saying your alliance needs you this second to get online and defend alliance sector 4 against a group of enemy players.

"XLM clan have jump in and are attacking our stations. I cant hold them off for long! I need a repair ship and a couple of capitals to help me. Please get here now!"

there are a fair few games that have limited online playability, but i think that its egosoft who are not really willing to deal with the servers needed to run this game online, there are games with slightly lower graphics, running full newtonian physics that allow you to have up to 30 people online, and then theres one which is fully online which last thing i heard allowed you to build stations now, or allowed your group to.
All in all over 3 games i can find answers to every excuse that egosoft has ever given barring the server one

I agree with this. If it was everyone on Roguey's site should be one! Anyway, you could have this but their eventually will be someone in a powerless ship on their own. People would not want to have people in their clans who have M5s if they could easily go and get someone with a Titan or Colossus that had loads of M5+4+3s.
Do you think their would still be wares like the 'Cartel Shield Hacker' in x3 in which someone from one clan. Comes along and steals some wares.
Also if clans had a mutual enemy they could temporarily team up and defeat the enemy clan?

Well... I was thinking that the ships would belong to the alliance and you just 'rent' a spare ship at the alliances shipyard. When someone logs off, then the ship returns back to the shipyard for reuse by another member (some could be locked for certain member levels). The leader of the alliance would spend money while the members would make money for the leader to spend. The leader could buy equipment, ships, weapons and maybe advert space for new members? Leaders could also declare war with other alliances for money, ships or members.

Well there ya go Roguey! Your next project... X3:Reunion - Roguey's Online Mod.
Hehehe, just kidding. That would be a ridiculous amount of work if it were even possible.
I imagine the best way to do it is EVE-like, where the main races' worlds are high-security and if you start stuff, you're going to get a big response.
Like you guys are saying, I think the best type of multiplayer for this game would be a small group of friends - that way you don't have to deal with the annoying players that do anything to win/be annoying and bend the rules.

hehe, online could be possible if someone knew the game's code very well and managed to create another program which links into X3 and sends/receives information to the internet. I am not talking about a mod, but hacking the exe/dll file which is not a simple task.
However even if this was possible, I dont X3 is a game which is designed for online - the universe would be too small, how would players interact with each other and servers would be needed to keep the game running whilst your not there.
I deferentially think online is the future but I am not sure it is for the X type of games.

a game like X online would be amazing apart from people trying to hack the system and cheat the game you would also have problems with time movement such as the seta, i think one server would not be enough either more like a server for each race's sectors or indeed for each sector
