Hello all. Im a newbie to forums, but have been playing X3TC for years now. I recently upgraded to Albion prelude, and have decided to try a little bit of everything, including things I have never tried before. The big one is actually capping another large vessel. I have done all kinds of internet research, and no one has given an actual detailed guide. What I would like, for myself and other newbies is a detailed guide on how to capture a specific ship. Where to go, what to buy, what ships to use, what sector to do so in, what to aim for. For lack of a better word, a training mission. Like say, how to specifically capture a Hercules or other super cargo ship. Just to get our feet wet before we start expanding to other things. Thank you for your time, and if this has already been done I apologize. -Char

Your Very First Boarding
Is that any help? Its in the Egosoft general forum sticky. There are a few that have popped up over the past year specifically for AP with videos and everything. Seems like they got buried instead of added to the sticky, shame really as boarding is difficult to understand at first.

it's good, but I was hoping for something specific for a specific target like a pirate Zues or something. not complaining, it is useful.

Boarding for every ship is more or less the same, so writting a guide for each ship would be crazy!

Interesting you have much experience in TC and have little boarding experience. My husband plays TC and has a Boarding Training Centre in Lasting Vengence. Although he lost many marines in the first few attempts to board the Dukes Zeus he now boards hundreds of Zeus without marine loss, increasing the fight ability of new marines and gaining all the IBLs he could need. I would think the same set up is possible in AP!

Capping Dukes Zeus (Lasting Vengence):
Dukes Zeus there has bad escort so is very very simple to get it. Below I explain what u need and step by step how to get ship in good hul condition and no marines loss.
I use : 20 Marines (all 5 stars) - trained to max!!!
Ships:
1 - Megalodon (max shields 5x2GJ, front guns= Ion Cannons) rear,bottom,left,right turrets = your choice set to Missile Def. Only
1.1 - 2x Eclipse (with Jump Drive instaled) docked at Megalodon
2 - Cobra (here are Marines and tons of Boarding Pod)
3 - Bomber (any ship that can use Tomahawk Heavy Missile)
that is all u need, and strategy is very simple:
1. With Your Bomber Jump to sector, check if there are any escort ships that protect the Dukes Zeus (I only saw there few Heavy Nemesis)
1.1 Fire 3-4 Tomahawk at each escort ship, 4-5 on Zeus (to get his attention)
1.2 Try to fly few km from Gate (your ship is much faster, Zeus max speed is about 78.) You want Zeus to be more/less 20km from gate to left or right.
2. When escort ships are gone, and You get Zeus on good position, order Your Megalodon "jump to me" and fly to meet him (change ship)
2.1 Fly Mega to Zeus, send back bomber to safty.
2.2 When at weapon firing range attack with Ion Cannons (Turret Front = attack my target) control numbers of instaled Ion Cannons, You need only to damage shields not the ship. If u see that Zeus shield is about 5-10% uninstall all but one Ion Cannon. Only 1 IC is what You need now, becouse we dont want to damage ship.
2.3 Call for Cobra with marines.
2.4 Check Cobra - make sure that Boarding Pods are installed in Missile slot! Check position of Zeus, Megalodon, Cobra (Boarding pods are flying in straight line so make sure that your Megalodon is not blocking it. Its good time to save game!
2.5 Loot at Zeus shields (now they should be 0%); Order Cobra to Piracy -> board ship : Dukes Zeus
2.6 Whe You get message that your marines are inside You can stop attack target and try to avoid fire. Fly away (not in direction of Yours Cobra)
Wait for Your Price.
When ship is Yours - order 1 Eclipse to dock at Zeus (eclipse should have JD instaled and max cargo of Energy C.) transfer JD to Zeus, with energy (it is enough to jump it to safty).
If You control weapons good, You get 95%+ hull ship.
Adv: It is good to scann ship befoure boarding, and buy Yourself a lot of Salvage insurance so You can save often. It is good to have on Megalodon some FB missiles to take care of small fighters if they appear. Remember to transfer Your marines back to the cobra GL!
Using this i succesful capped 8+ Zeus from LV sector... and some Terran Capital ships (tokyo, osaka...) form random terran sectors.

That is a little overboard to capture that Zeus, don't you think. Just take a Cobra, move away from the gate, kill all of the Zeus's escort, then get approximately 20km from the Zeus, match speed with it and lead it toward the gate. Drop the shields (I believe 10 hammers was the magic number) launch a flail every 3 seconds to keep its shield down, and launch your marines. That Zeus has very low boarding resistance, so even combat rookies will usually survive. I captured probably 50 of them, as Lasting Vengeance was the training grounds for my marines.

I fully agree with You Martimus, but Char said that He dont have much expirience. By training this he get a nice start-point to get more demanding ships. Besides that,the appetite grows with eating, and I think that if He succesfuly cap few Zeus he try with other ships. Dont You agree that one Cobra can be not enough (form my exp it is not enough) to get ie: Q,K,Osaka... ?

It really depends on your technique. You cannot board Xenon ships with only 20 marines, but I have never needed additional weaponry to what the single Cobra could provide. That said, your method looks like it would work, and is probably pretty fun. I have nothing against your method, I just figured the cost and time to implement it may be prohibitive to someone starting out boarding.

Hmm how do you cap a Q with only 20x5 stars?
I just lost 19 marines and 21 survived the assault of a Q after launching 3 waves of marines
I stole the Yaki collosus carrier model with the cobra alone.. awfull effective ship but quickly runs out of ammo

I found that while Xenon capital ships are the hardest to capture (as i have heard but not tried yet, except the "Xenon P" and failed), the hull is easy to breach, is that right? (as i tried for that "Xenon P" with marines with low "Mech Skills", and penetrating the hull was easy), the question is:
1. What is exactly the requirements for marines (in terms of their skills and number) to successfully capture different Xenon ships? "100% Fighting" yes but what about "Mech" and "Hack"?
2. So yes i know that i must use extra "100% Fighting Skills" marines (20 marines are not enough for Xenon Q, J, K and I) and there will be losses in marines, but for Xenon P and PX will there be losses too?? if not, why wouldn't we try to make profitsss from Xenon PX (since you don't lose marines if that's true)?

Capturing Xenon K= 40 marines boarding, more-less 13 survive. I dont remember they skills (now im playing X3:AP+XRM ) but Im sure that 20-25 of them was all skills max trained.
