I've just finished the Breaking Grounds plot, and boy, is that wonderful...sticking the sector directly between pirates and my most hated enemy. My question is, will the Terrans send massive patrols through the sector like they tend to do in the war region? The pirates can easily be fended off by a nice cluster of lasertowers, but I'd hate to see the huge 3-M1/2-M2/6-M7/4-M8/Escort Terran patrol fleets running through since I never tend to build my military much past my playership.

Well, elsewhere on this site some players complained about the constant pirate presence making it an unsuitable sector to invest in........ this didn't become much of a problem for me .... and since putting a Skiron M6 on patrol(escorted by another Skiron) in the Gate Hub Sector I haven't seen another pirate. Later on the Gate Hub can be connected to any other sectors you fancy but I won't be bothered doing that until I have someone specific to attack (eradicate.)

The pirates don't worry me much as it's simple to drop a set of 16-32 Lasertowers on their gate and nuke them since that sector doesn't seem to spawn anything bigger than an M7. That isn't a viable option for a massive capship patrol like the Terrans employ, though. So as long as they stay out, I'm happy.

I already have had the Hub connecting the three parts of Argon space together to bolster my factories as I also have an aversion to building massive loops for SPPs. That's part of what has me worried; one of the connections is set to the southern gate of Black Hole Sun, which is a nice backdoor to the warzone if the Terrans actually use roving patrols. It seems like most of the war ships are spawned via script rather than patrol job, though.

I think I'll ditch the Black Hole Sun connection anyway since it only leads to a wheat complex. Too bad the asteroids in the new sector are horrendously low yield.

Yes lots of people have noticed the low yield 'roids and commented, I use CLS2 from other stations bolstered with some mobile miners and an in system CLS2. (I don't find freighters that have bailed that much use as anything else apart from M/mining... and if some of the required ore and silicon is free..... profits are guaranteed!) P.S. Black Hole Sun isn't the safest place for pilots in slow ships to wander through!

I really need to figure out the CLS systems...I've installed both the bonus and modified versions on just about every game I've played and managed to get them working once.
From the sounds of it, though, I guess it'll work okay as a player sector. Big but not as huge as Avarice and it is really quite pretty.

It is now that there are 12 Lasertowers parked on the north gate's handlebars. Big grin Though one dipped to hull recently from an OOS PX patrol, so I'll probably plop a few more. They nuke the bigger ships quite quick but then take forever to peck at the escorts.

hmm.. well having your own sector isnt all that exciting to be honest; if anything its worse - because commonwealth/terran sectors get support from Rapid-Force ships (encase there is a large spawn of ships). I did use the HUB on both gates to buffer the sector; this meant if there was any fights they would be in the HUB sector rather than in player-sector. I think the HUB is invincible anyway.

Although I wasnt too bothered about attacking fleets:

@00Z662 Lasertowers didn't seem to do much in TC if you were OOS so I haven't bothered much with them in AP. However I did learn that picking them up with a freighter and dropping them again repairs them, which can be useful.
