The x-universe fandom can't get enough x-universe, so an indie dev went and provided more x-universe.

Helium Rain is a game designed as a response to Egosoft's offerings and attempts to provide what X3 lacks. The galaxy is focused rather then expansive, with a smallish enviroment packed with dozens of competing corporations, factories that frequently change hands as said corporates declare war on each other, and pirates that try to shake you buisness down for money. There's also combat fought with cannons rather then lasers. And mercenary contracts to help one corporation crush another. And retro-future ship designs. And a unique color palette.

The result is kinda a dry, slow-paced game, but the same could be said about X3
