How do you handle multiple ships?

I'm new to the game, and I've just realised that ships are actually stored in the last station where they were used, and you actually need to get back in order to use them router login.

So how do you handle multiple ships? Do you pay for transfer costs and have one ship with large jump range you use first? Do you always ultimately go back to the same location to change ship?

you remain in the ship you are using.

To change ship..
they must be where you are, if not fly to them or get them transferred to your station.

early game it helps to have a home base to keep your fleet together.
eg Jamison in Shintara Dezhra (has just about all the stuff you will need to buy)

later game...use you carrier as homebase.

I tend to have something of Home Base, where I store majority of my ships.

Otherwise, I just keep one or two in the systems most frequently visited by me for specific purposes.

Also, I tend to import ships from far away (even 1500 Ly; perhaps I'll risk to import a ship from Sol to Colonia lol).
