Hello White.
Silly question, but steam will accept it ?
My concern is not only about Egosoft / Steam deleting the save but about the a file that goes from 1 account to another.
I remember back to XR days I was changing the XML file all the time because of the bugs.
Can we still do it in X4 or are there any tricks ?

I thought I saw a signature at the bottom of save-games, so will *modified* be displayed somewhere?

All those save games with unmodified are unmodified, wich means the game will load it,and not show modified tag.
Those are safe to use, no savegame edit has been done on them.

About savegames, you can edit a save in any XML editor,like notepad++
no matter what platform those savegames are interchangeble between users.
An *modified* tag you get if:
- you make changes using an editor.
- add mods to the game.
- Alter corefiles.
once modified a savegame cant be undone.
once modified due to mod usage,removing the mods will unmodifiy the game.
But read!!
a modified savegame can NEVER been unmodified.
Thats why if you want a little boost or cheated stuff, you have to use some memory tool like cheat engine.
I added a new savegame this morning, with my progress.
in the young gun folder:

I searched around internet and from what it seems, there is no problem at all if your savegame is flagged as "Modified". Maybe we won't get some new achievements that may come later but everything will be ok.
To tell you the truth , since it is a single player game and not MMO, I don't think that Egosoft will mind much about it. What do you think ?

Mine are all flagged as "modified" since I tried to change the character name to mine, just wish you could choose your name of your character, after all it's about "you" not some fictional character like Gerald of Rivia 
If egosoft had an issue with it, they would revert back to a gamesave check at least.
