Computer and video games recently interviewed Mark Skaggs. For those who don't know Skaggs, he is Generals Executive Producer. This interview is very long(Especially compared to the famous "=)" replies by Delphi.), but does cover alot of information, especially when you're not yet familiar with the game! Here's a short snippit:
Skaggs: The best way to think of this is that each side wages war according to its natural strengths and weaknesses. For example, the US is all about lethal, high tech hardware. They place a high value on human life so they would rather send in hardware, bombs and missiles than people.
The Chinese on the other hand, use their numbers to their advantage with bonuses for attacking in groups. China also likes weapons of fire and, of course, they have the nuke. Finally, the GLA have neither numbers nor high tech hardware so they have to rely on sneaky tactics and their toxic weapons and explosives. Think of the GLA like low-tech insects. Their strength is that once they infest an area, they are hard to find and hard to kill.
We've spent a significant amount of time figuring out the balance. To help make sure, we've been letting the public test the multiplayer for the past few months. This is the first time we've ever held a public multiplayer test for a C&C RTS game.
