Here's Harvard's post on why the patch 1.6 and the ladder kit are taking so long:

Dear C&C Generals players,

First off...sorry that I haven't posted for a couple weeks. Col Burt does a great job but I realize how important it is for me to give it to you straight from the developer's mouth.

Are we working on 1.6? Yes.

Have we had some unexpected things pop up that have delayed it? Yes.

Is the Ladder Kit still in the works even though its taken too long? Yes.

Fact is, we've got some stuff going on here at EA that is delaying it. Not a huge deal but enough for us to juggle priorities. (Generals is on top of the list) Not too long - but enough to get everyone a bit impatient. We apologize for the delay but you guys are't being left out to dry.

We'll have more news soon. Patch 1.6 (which will include a fix to the firewalls and some balance fix ups and some other stuff) will be along shortly. I don't have a time yet though...but we're busting our *#^#* to get it to you asap.

I really appreciate your patience. We expect to support Generals for a long while into the future. Please don't take this hiccup as a sign that we won't. 5 Patches in 3 months is a lot but we hope that future ones make the game even better.

Hope that helps. I realize that concrete info is what you're looking for but we've gotta get some things sorted on this end to make sure Generals gets the best care going forward.
