Generals article

After all the sad articles, there is also a good one over at CNC Universe it talks about the modding mapping support, generals has or need. In this article you will find Generals compared to WC3. here is a snippet:

Requirement one has got to be a map editor. Without one, the game has almost no chance for growth, as playing the same old maps over and over gets old. Luckily, it's been promised, and already out to a few key community members for review and comments. You can see a screenshot of the editor right here. EA Pacific look like they've got it right. The editor looks very intuitive, and we're promised the ability to do all kinds of cool things like add custom triggers to maps. Triggers? They're commands that tell the game to do something once a certain condition is met. For example, when a player's units enter this area, have this group of AI controlled rocket soldiers attack them. This makes single player mission creating easier, and will add a new dimension to multiplayer maps. That's one thing that has always been lacking from CNC multiplayer maps, uncertainty. It's always been you versus your opponent. Now you, as a map maker, have the ability to make the player fear the neutral units on the map as well his opponent, something that has not been done very well in the past. I hope this editor will promote more original scenarios like this. Starcraft has always had plenty of unique missions, thanks to its great editor, and now WCIII is probably going to do the same. It's up to EAP to outclass Blizzard and beat them at their own game, which I certainly feel is possible. One of the things that could do this is the ability to allow you to make your own matrix-style 'memorable moments.' One of the new features that we haven't seen in other RTS games.
