After what was thought to be cancelled, EA LA started working on this sequel to one of the best games ever!

Here's the official press release:

Los Angeles, March 31, 2003 - Eight years ago, Westwood Studios launched Command & Conquer? and changed the face of gaming forever. The series went on to sell better than 10 million units and has become the most popular PC strategy game franchise in the history.

Two years ago, Westwood Studios brought out the first Command & Conquer 3D action-shooter, to immediate critical acclaim and commercial success.

Today the newly established Electronic Arts Los Angeles team announced the sequel to the reputedly dead 3D action series, Command & Conquer? Renegade 2, working title ?Battlefield?. ?Due to the move from Las Vegas to the new EALA studio, and the takeover of the previous Renegade team, additional resources have become available, which can now be used for Renegade 2.

As in the original Command & Conquer? Renegade players can act as a commando unit directly on the battlefield, and create mischief as one-man-army. However, the new game will be more action-packed, colourful and detailed than ever, and is based on a dramatically advanced W3D engine. ?We?re proud of our engine and have re-written the entire code. There are lots more polygons than in the first Renegade?, says Louis Castle, executive producer on Renegade 2. ?With the rich world of the Red Alert universe as setting, I think we?re going to create another amazing action game! With brand new intriguing characters, exotic settings, high powered weapons, a fleet of new vehicles, Renegade 2 ?Battlefield? has just about everything," says Castle.

Command & Conquer? Renegade 2 promises to be a brand new multiplayer experience with a great variety of team play options like several deathmatch modes, as well as several Capture the Flag modes. The multiplayer will be supported by Westwood Online, an online gaming service with more than a million members.

More information about Command & Conquer? Renegade 2 ?Battlefield? will be released at the forthcoming consumer trade show e3. Check www.westwood.com for updates.
