Sad day.

Yesterday was a sad day, the community has lost a site, and a staff member of another site.... I know Roguey has already posted about ren Realm, I just couldn't neglect to post my thanks to Lefty and the rest of the staff at Ren Realm, for the great site they've maintained for nearly 1,5 years.

Lefty over at Renegade Realm has decided to shut down what was once the most glorious Renegade site of them all, this was written at the last remaining page of the site:

"That was left-handed" - GDI Commando, GDI Mission 6, Tiberian Dawn

The time has finally come to shut down Renegade Realm. After talking it over with Periclytes, we decided it was better to close it down than to let it continue in its rarely-updated state.

Don't worry, nothing is being lost to the community. All of the content will be going to n00bstories.com in a "mini hosted site," and all the downloads will go to Planet CNC. In one week, the cncrenegade.info url will redirect to n00bstories.com. The Renegade Alert mod still continues; you can find it here.

What about me, you ask? I'll still remain active in the community as a moderator of the Official Renegade Forums, and I have a couple of other things in mind for the future I might get involved in. You can catch me on the #n00bstories chat channel on radiantx.net and my AIM and ICQ logins remain the same. I have had a great time as webmaster of Renegade Realm, and hope to continue contact with the many great people I've met through this position.

Many special thanks to (in no particular order): TheVoice, Periclytes, Lion, Delphi, Devinoch, Moe, Aircraftkiller, Morphious, Dario, Crimson, Blazer, Jamie, Shen, the entire C&C Community webmasters and staff, the Renegade Development team, all current and past Renegade Realm staff, and all the daily visitors of the site.

Here's some of what's happened during the 17 months Renegade Realm was operational:

Over 1,250,000 hits.

Over 1500 members registered.

Over 1000 news posts made.

Over 6.4 Terabytes of data served.

At the peak of the website, over 1200 unique visitors daily.

A complete rebuild of the site in May, 2002.

The largest Renegade wallpapers collection was created.

We became the only Renegade site to crash its hosts network because of screenshots.

Secondly; we have Jim from CNC Series who has served at CNC series for nearly 2 years and who has decided to move on. I'd like to wish him good luck with whatever his path will lead him to!
Jim's words were the following:

Yes, finally it is time to move onto something new. September 2001 to May 2003 - I've spend the best part of a year and half here, and leaving CNC Series wasn't an easy decision for me. I've got to "know" people very well through the site, and have had much enjoyment playing the many games to come our way.

So why am I leaving? In the most part, it's because I feel in the last 6 months we've been systematically manipulated, bent and even lied to, all in the name of "Gaming". In reality, it was so EA could rake in monsterous profits from what was at heart, an exceedingly average game. And while the usual suspects, and they know who they are, will continue to scream from the rooftops about how good and fun Generals is, we all see its flaws.

I can't justify to myself continuing to write while our community acts as nothing but a massive virtual billboard and voicebox for Electronic Arts. People said when Westwood closed down and EAP was created that Generals was doomed, but I covered my ears. People created Anti-EA t-shirts more. I closed my eyes. With hindsight - I may have been niave. As a brand, Command and Conquer has been violated once more. And I simply cannot stand it. For my last post, I think quoting the great Richard Nixon would be fitting.

You are here to say goodbye to us, and we don't have a good word for it in English -- the best is au revoir. We'll see you again.
