If you equip a fighter you hire a pilot who takes a % of your income. Why not create a game system where you get to spend your NPC pilots income on https://xender.vip/ upgrades that improve them as a pilot or give them unique skills/buffs.

Instead of just spending money on upgrades, you can invest in a special training mode to develop your piloting skills. This can include mini-games or challenges that require you to participate in to improve your pilot's stats.
