Might actually help with a list of terms used by long term X gamers so people might understand whats being said if they are new to the games, including some words that really shouldnt be mentioned but have to be for clarity .....
X or xbtf = X beyond the frontier, the originator game, starts like the hardest setting of all the following games, not one for a few minutes playing here and there, as getting to the first place to save takes up to 15minutes, and thats if you know what you are going for.
X-tension = addon to the first game, totally open ended, no plot involved, the intro is very probably the introduction of Julian Brennan, but at that point hes just a child watching his father depart to make a massive empire .....
X2 or the threat = 2nd game, the antics of a certain son once grown of age and the introduction of more questions than answers to the x universe ...
X3 or the return = 3rd game, originally designed as an expansion, but then got a graphics overhaul, along with some additional physics so the ships slide everywhere, autopilot cant figure this sidways movement out hence throws your ship everywhere, or commits suicide, should of just made it the expansion as some of the screenshots show that they had complexes right,
X-tended mod = sometimes mistaken for the 1st games addon, personally i ended up getting into several arguments with people to do with this mod due to the way some of its fans went everywhere slagging off other mods repeatingly, was sorted eventually but the mod ate recources, game started to tilt towards more fight less trade, and this is basically terran conflict......
X3tc or terran conflict = final installment, leaves some of the story behind from xbtf but seemingly adds background to the Xenon, personally i tried this once, and despite supposedly having a computer than could handle the game quite well ended up playing a slideshow game once one set of capital ships started fighting, always seemingly wanting to go the complete other direction to Roguey, the designers (modding team from x-tended) have turned the place into a nightmare to run, more ships, more missiles, more bullets, less shields. May attempt this game if roguey mods for it but doubt it as i hate the stations from X3 onwards anyway
