30th Anniversary
Saturday 20th September, 2014 · Posted by Roguey · 1 commentsThis weekend Elite enters into its 30th year, and to mark this event the original Elite from 1984 will be free;
This is a slightly updated version from the original release on the BBC. For me personally, the game is a bit too old to play (maybe ive been spoiled with textures and that ). Maybe you may want to try for nostalgic reasons?
We have also been given the date when Beta 2 should be launched; 30th September. Im guessing something delayed it for the 30th Anniversary. Beta 2 will see player ranks/ reputations, expanded universe (55 to 500 systems), more ships and I guess bug fixes. The full newsletter can be found here.
The guys at Frontier have put a little video together discussing their favourite moments from the original elite, attached below;
In celebration, Frontier have created a new wire-frame skin for the Cobra MK3... but, at £10 a pop! Yes, you read right - £10 for one skin! Which will only be available until the 30th. To me this is way-way over priced - as a single texture should not cost more than two games on Steam. A celebration shouldnt really be a time to milk players for cash (especially early backers). Sorry to put a downer on things, but I really hate this marketing strategy by Frontier. Bad call.
