This weekend Elite enters into its 30th year, and to mark this event the original Elite from 1984 will be free;

This is a slightly updated version from the original release on the BBC. For me personally, the game is a bit too old to play (maybe ive been spoiled with textures and that :p). Maybe you may want to try for nostalgic reasons?

We have also been given the date when Beta 2 should be launched; 30th September. Im guessing something delayed it for the 30th Anniversary. Beta 2 will see player ranks/ reputations, expanded universe (55 to 500 systems), more ships and I guess bug fixes. The full newsletter can be found here.

The guys at Frontier have put a little video together discussing their favourite moments from the original elite, attached below;

In celebration, Frontier have created a new wire-frame skin for the Cobra MK3... but, at £10 a pop! Yes, you read right - £10 for one skin! Which will only be available until the 30th. To me this is way-way over priced - as a single texture should not cost more than two games on Steam. A celebration shouldnt really be a time to milk players for cash (especially early backers). Sorry to put a downer on things, but I really hate this marketing strategy by Frontier. Bad call.
