You guys seem to be finding a lot of good ships for sale... you think its something to do with amount of game-hours? longer, the better ships are offered. hmm.. I wonder if its worth me trying to look into the script (if there) to see what offered - funny if there was an M2 or M1's there.

@ Scott -- my first 'offered' M6 was also a Dragon at about the price.
Did you one you get have any marines on-board?
I have mine now armed for anti-fighter and it does pretty good under AI.
I like the Nova Vanguards. I have a number of them in my fleet.
Keep your eye out for the Nova Raider. It's a bit faster then the Vanguard, but slightly smaller cargo space. I have a number of these too.
@ Roguey -- I do think it's possible that the amount of game-hours might have something to do with it.
There was a time in my game when most "offered" ships were L and XL freighters instead of the small capacity ones.
One the off-side...it's definitely worth keeping an eye open for ships being offered, just to sell them right away for profit.
While a number of "offered" ships are way overpriced, I've come across many where I could make 20 to 40% profit right away at the nearest Shipyard.

First ... I misspoke. The Dragon (with marines) I was offered and purchased cost a lot more. I have a post about it here somewhere.
I remember, now, saying it was costly..but with marines and equipment on-board if was worth it to me.
***The following takes a lot more work then what I'm posting below...
For taking a big ship, M7's up to M1's takes 20 marines and a M7M.
That's how I've done it so far. Read the link I am providing below for more information.
If there is another method to M7's and bigger, I haven't read about it yet.
The one I'm familiar with for getting fighters and freights takes no (zero) marines. You shoot at your target, lowering the shields all the way and reducing the hull (below 5%) until the pilot bails out of his ship. Then you fly over, eject from your ship, get close to target ship (30 meters) and "claim" it.
There is a method for M6's, M8's, and freighters that needs 5 marines and a fast M6 or TM with good shields. But I have only read about this method and have not tried yet.
I don't feel qualified to speak of this method since I haven't tried it yet.
Here is a link. I found it helpful to me...

Have my 2nd Carrack (M7).
Hull is only down to 72%. She has 4 EBC's. System extension include cargo life support, duplex scan, hull polarizing device (no wonder this one was more difficult), and SETA.
No losses to any of the 20 marines used. Twelve Flail missiles, 4 boarding pods, and 6 Hammer Heavy Torpedoes expended.
Had to re-load game 6 times but final result was worth it.

I just been looking at the xml that offers ships for sale. It looks there are 3 types of sale:
- Ship pilot is in (will become astronaut, 10%),
- Ship at docked at station (30%),
- Upgraded and want to sell old (60%),
After that, it looks like TM, TS, TP, M5 are offered with a high chance. After that M6, M3, M4, M5 are offered. There are no other classes offered as of v1.1 (so you can get M7/M1/M2's being offered).
It looks like notoriety is used not game-time or current player balance. I personally find XML very hard to understand, so sorry if I haven't got everything 100% correct.
Congratulations on your 2nd Carrack cjm3fl!

Look at all the dust here....
Just updating this thread...
Picked up a second Dragon (M6) for 4.7 million credit, the Basilisk. The listed purchase price is 7.5 million.
She was offered at the Trading Port in Patriarch's Conclusion by some shady looking character...but it was a good deal.
94% hull, 8 IRE, a single 1MJ shield, 5 Marines (one nicely trained, 4 brand new boots with no training).
I've upgraded her to match her sister, the Grendel, with 4 HEPT, 4 CIG, 1 PBE, and 2 different missiles. Her speed, rudder, and cargo needed full upgrading. Jumpdrive, cargo life support, and both fighting software already installed.
A side note: I was offered, and purchased a Nemesis while at a shipyard in Paranid space for 670,324 credits. Was thinking about keeping it, but the hull was down to (about) 45% and wasn't carrying any equipment, upgrades, software, weapons, or marines.
I looked really quick at the selling price at the same shipyard I got it at.
Turns out I was being offered 3,867,950 cr "as is".
She looked like she'd be a nice M6 to have, but I sold her and made a quick 3.2 million credits.
Keep an eye out guys for ships being offered for sale at the various stations. I've made some quick cash buying then immediately selling ships that are offered for sale.
And I've gotten some really great deals on M3's, TS's, TM's, and M6's that I've added to my fleet.
Presently up to 55 marines with those that were aboard the new Dragon.
I'm taking the time to train all of them up to, or more then, 3 stars in all training skills.

You can't board M8, they bail under fire same as fighters and freighters. They seem to only do so when on Station defence missions though, or at least I've only ever acquired them from those. For some reason an M8 just out in space, be it alone or part of a military convoy, just don't like to bail.
Congrats on the nice deal cjm3fl!

Talking of M8s... I HATE THEM!!!!
I would rather go up against an M2 than an M8. The missiles they launch are usually very powerful, and once you or your turrets destroy the incoming missiles and turn to get the M8 it launches more blooming missiles!

Ouchy. I personally only recall once being hit by a missile from a M8, that was when I aggro'ed it right as it came through a gate. During station protect missions they will only launch one missile at the station then are out of ammo (apparently). Unless military ones work like they are supposed to, vs a player. Even during a Xenon invasion they won't even shoot at the Qs and just die in a fire.

Good enough reason just to blast them first!
I have 4 Gladiators in my fleet. Right now they are used for escort duty but I will use them offensively, in conjunction with my M7M's, when I go on my planned Paranid rampage.

Yeah....I wonder how much more fearful they are when looking at them with 3 eyes?
Sinxar -- are you talking about your own M8's?...or NPC in the sector during a Xenon attack?
I've changed the 'Missile Fire Probability' to 50% when I had only 1 Gladiator. The damned thing fired off every missile it carried before I realize the pilot had gone a little battle-crazy.
