First, I'm trying to organize my fleet.
Presently I have 103 ships; 55 fighters, 3 M2's, 3 M7's, 1 M7M, 5 M6's, 4 M8's, 3 TM's, 2 TP's and 27 various TS's.
I'm gathering everyone up at Getsu Fune to organize and properly arm (re-arm) each ship.
I think I have enough weapons and missiles, as cargo, to complete this.

I also have a crap load of "goods" cargo, worth a could million credits.

But I'm setting up to go "hunting" this weekend.
I have my eye on a pirate Carrack (M7) and a Yaki Advanced Chokaro (TM).

After properly arming the ships I will need on this raid, I'll be staging in the Merchants Haven sector.
I've reconned the Maelstrom and Gaian Star sectors, and the 'unknown' sector between them. Very rich pirate territories Evil

I will fly my Cobra (M7M) and take the Tiger (M7) and Dragon (M6) as escort. Following along will be one of the TM's with fighters equipped with jump-drives that I will be able to transfer to my captured ships.

Wish me luck. This will be my first marine-boarding mission.
When completed, I will be turning my eye to a Boron Kraken (M7M).

Got me 45 marines, several that are well trained.

It's not what someone has done..it's about what they are about to do!

Good luck!

The first I tried was some atmospheric lifters. I read Roguey's post and got 2 of them. Actually thats a lie, the first capture was a Ryu... talk about a pain in the ass!

Don't forget to save often!

45 marines eh? nice - hopefully you wont lose too many whilst boarding. For me boarding seems to be the best way to earn money now.

**Note to self**
Don't dock ships at "weak" stations, like Cattle Ranches and not check on them from time to time.

Down to 99 ships.
Had 4 fully loaded XL freighters docked at a Cattle Ranch in Getsu Fune. Two loaded with Rastar Oil, one with Meatsteaks, and the other loaded with a mix of varied goods on Saturday morning.
Thought they would be safe enough.

Someone took out the station since then and it doesn't exist in any of my 'saved games'.

I suspect Pirates.
I might have to extract a little revenge shortly Evil

Its right next to a Xenon sector with lots of large patrols coming through. Prolly got ate by them. Thats why there are so few stations there, sometimes none other than the eq docks. the Xenon kill em and kill any traders. The eq docks respawn though.

tbh nowhere is really safe other than maybe your HQ. Just yesterday in The Wall there was a very large Paranid battle group rampaging and leveled the entire sector. Thats the first time i have seen another race invade a sector like that. They had 2x M2, 1x M1, 3x M7 and about 10 bombers and a blob of m3 - m5s. I mean thats a core security sector too and there wasnt a single argon capital to be found. I got lots of loot though. had to make multiple trips to sell it all. I eventually got bored of following them and went back trading.

in my last game Family Pride got destroyed by pirates. I lost quite a few ships that were docked at the shipyard lol.

I didn't even realize you said you were staging there in your first post. generally not a good idea. that entire northeast corner of the map is a danger zone. Good for trading, but don't leave ships there.

Hi

Training marines is a pain...!

So I developed a method to do it quicly and without turning the game **Modified**.
With an aplication that I made in Excel and a memory Hex editor.

If anyone wants, just send me your saved game and I'll return it with the marines all 5 stars.

Of corse I can't doit for everybody, because I have other things to do.

But I'll be happy to help someone who's very desperated.

No thank you. Seems to defeat the purpose of the game.

First off...I got a late start on stuff..as always Undecided

JCC -- Thank you for your offer. I'll think about it and maybe contact you soon, but presently the time it takes to train, while extreme, isn't too bad for me.

As for my "Hunt".
Took my Cobra, the "Aldrin's Dream" to the 'unknown' sector 'tween Maelstrom and Gaian Star. Flew, not jumped. Took my Tiger and one of the Panthers as escort. Found nice targets along the way, but I waited.

Found a Carrack in the 'unknown' sector and followed it around. It's was not escorted but there was a lot of other pirate ships in the immediate area and I just followed. I sent the two M7's off a save distance.
As it turned out one of the other 3 Carracks in the sector was interested in me. It had dropped it's escorts and began following me.
I picked this as my target...

First attempt: 20 flail--fired hazardly, 8 heavy hammer -- ship destroyed. Bash the wall
Second attempt: 15 flail (just to get his attention) 5 heavy hammers, 3 flail then 4 boarding pods (=20 marines), followed by 3 more flail..ship secured with 9% hull, no shields, the loss of 7 marines..but 8 IBL's. I decide to retry.

Third attempt: 15 flail fired at intervals to piss the pilot off, 5 heavy hammer to bring down the shields, 4 more flail--then the boarding pods--followed by 3 more flail.

Success!
One Carrack, 71% hull. All 20 marines survived. Sadly, no weapons or salvage on board.
But at the cost of 5 heavy hammers, 22 flail, and 4 boarding pods...not to forget the time involved, couple of saves, and the re-starts...well worth it since I now have my 4th M7 that only needs a small amount of hull repairs.
I have shields and weapons on TS's to fit her out properly.

Might go back and get my Carrack a "sister" Borg

Then off to find an Advanced Chokaro and a Kraken.

It's not what someone has done..it's about what they are about to do!

Ah, the old Carrack. Its a annoying ship to fight in a smaller craft, but isnt too well shielded against other M7's. I really need to try and cap one earlier in my game, as I would like to use it as an main ship for awhile. Its just by the time I usually get an Carrack, I already have an M2 or so. So it always gets put into the back. However the Carrack is a nice ship and congratulations on your boarding.

I have this Carrack equipped for anti-fighter duty with ten CIG's, 4 FAA, 2 each PRG's and IPG's.
Still figuring the best anti-fighter missile(s) to use. Presently Tempest and Thunders are loaded.

I'll probably have her escort one of my M2's, or patrol a sector that I have mining operations in.

I like the looks of this ship and how it is almost made for anti-fighter duty. And I do plan to "grab" another one or two real soon.

Shameless second post, sorry...

I picked up an Osprey offered at a Shipyard for 845,000 credits.
No shields, weapons, or cargo.
Hull was 53% and I got it up to 75% with repair laser.

I can sell it for 8,175,000 credits at the same Shipyard I bought it at or go ahead and fit it out properly and add it my fleet.

Seems like a half decent M6...but that's a nice profit if I sell it.

I think of the Carrack the same way: great for anti-fighter, which makes it kind-of hard to board early in the game.

The Osprey sounds like a great deal, I never seem to get anything like that offered. I just get TS's, M5's or TP's offered, so I dont really check them missions that much.

I don't know what luck has turned my way, but I was just offered, and purchased, a Hydra (M6) at a Boron Shipyard.

It has 58% hull, no weapons or shields on board, and no upgrades...but it only cost me 914,000 credits.

This is my 3rd M6 I was offered and purchased at a good price.
As I type this post, my game just went exactly to 59 days (0 hours/0 minutes) play time.

***
Okay, so I'm going to keep it.
I install all upgrades (engine, cargo, rudder), put in shields, some decent weapons, and repair the hull it at the Shipyard.
Total cost, including purchase = 5,128,009cr
If I sell, at Shipyard I got it from, being offered 6,987,261cr

I think I will check all "trade" offers at Shipyards a little closer from now on.
