I completed the first part of the HUB some time ago and am preparing to pick that plot back up.
One of the next steps is to pick a "home sector".
I guess I'm not actually asking a question, just putting my thoughts out there and see what comes back.
I have a few sectors in mind already.
unknown sector South of Menelaus' Oasis -- I'm working one of the exploits there at the moment.
unknown sector East of Zyarth's Dominion -- this was my fist choose before knowing about an upcoming 'reward'.
unknown sector between Montalaar and New Income -- on good terms with the pirate base there
Savage Spur is an option
President's End is a possibility, but past history concerns me.
I'm heading off to check out a few other possible 'asteroid rich' sectors.
Mainly those south of Savage Spur, and the one west of Unholy Decent (and the one south of this one).
Problem is..I'm planning to start a war against the Paranid next time one of the looks at me crooked, again.
Which is kind of weird with those 3 eyes.

I completed that section of the Hub not so long ago (bloody nightmare plot in vanilla ), and opted for Gunne's Crusade as my home system. It's fairly central, quite rich in minerals and even if you start a war with the Paranid they only have border sectors nearby, albeit three of them (even though Third Redemption houses a Super Shipyard). But look at like this: If you wipe out Third Redemption, Clarity's End and Perdition's End in the opening stages of your war, they won't have a nearby staging ground to immediately strike back
GC can easily support the Ore and Teladianium requirements for the next stage of the Hub, I used the remaining resources in the system for a booze/weed plex to generate silly amounts of cash (Humble Merchant game).

I like those 2 unknown sectors west of Unholy Descent. I didn't even use them for the hub, instead I build a large food plex in the south with an excess of energy for my weapon plex in the north. I got the second set of gates activated now, so Im thinking about connecting between UK - Unholy Descent and UK - Menelaus' Oasis. When I get the third set I want to put it between zyarth's dominion - UK. This will allow me to easily move energy around between the sectors very easily and make my CLSs lives that much easier while stocking the PHQ.
Last time I think I put it between home of light - argon prime, menelaus' oasis - UK, and kept the one connected to terran - aldrin space. Had a giant chip plex in that Unknown sector in the SE corner.
But yea, this time im connecting my own empire together, damn the commonwealth!

Yeah, I like the two sectors down by Unholy Descent too, but they were pre-booked to be a MissilePlex. I generate massive overstocks of Crystals in the southern sector, and use them to power all the food fabs/mines/forges.

wow just got done reading the hub plot walk thru. Guess i should start planning now whereto go. The unknown sector down by legends might work but a few atriods. savage spur but the yati have a base south and would have to travel thru.to bad about the sector by m148I was thinking about that one for a while but might not be a good idea knowing this info. guess I will down load the loctics from ecsoft to get the ball rolling. looks like a ts would be good to have as I have a ore mine in midnight star and one in queens reduption just north of Ateas hq. wanting the ships .which of the ts would be the best? speed and cargo plus guns savage spur has three roids that are good for mines I understand. Now why would you start a war with the paraind?? I like there neat weapons. Is there a plot that does that or are you just doing it ? thanks.

Scott -- I'm just going to go to war with them...someday soon.
There's no plot involving going to war with the Paranid.
I witnessed them wipe out 3 different Argon sectors at the beginning of my game.
I'm just thinking it would be a good idea to give them a taste of their own medicine
Kirlack -- I like the idea of using Gunne's Crusade. It's location is really nice. I just scanned the asteroids in the sector and it does have lots of ore and silicone 'roids. I scanned it remotely so I didn't notice if there was any nividium rubble.
I like that the lower section is asteroid free..plenty of space for building stations.
Looks like a great place to set up a missile complex and it's close to the UK sector 'tween Montalaar and New Income, which I have plans for.
Definitely a great 'jump off point' from which to begin my attack.
Thanks much for your insight
Sinxar -- I just scanned the UK west of Unholy Descent (completely) and the one further south (mostly).
Definitely making plans for that part of the map.
It's close proximity to Paranid territories is a little concerning, but I'm in the market for a few more M2's so I will have the firepower to defend these sectors.
I'm still leaning towards the UK east of Zyarth's Dominion at my 'first' Home Sector.
There are some large yield Ore asteroids, it should be easily defended, and at the end of the New Home plot there is that new sector that is spawned just north of this sector.
When I complete more plots, I plan to place my PHQ in this 'new' sector.
Scott -- I like Caiman freighters myself. The larger haulers and super ones.
But I have a few Demeters in my fleet too (less weapons but more shields).
*edit*
Crap--forgot to include that I also scanned all the asteroids in the following sectors;
Senator's Badlands, Ocracoke's Storm, and Savage Spur (yeah, all 180 here).
The Yaki didn't bother me at all while I was in these sectors of theirs.
But they definitely DO NOT like the Paranid either
I will do some building and stage some warships in these sectors
As soon as any Paranid ship(s) showed up in Savage Spur, the Yaki were all over it/them.
They didn't always win, but the Paranid did not advance beyond this sector.
I may find a good friend in the Yaki when I begin my war against the Paranid

Be careful building anything in Ocracokes until you've completed the PHQ plot - that system plays an important role in the late stages of that plot, and a complex there runs the risk of being destroyed by the Yaki (even if you're on good terms with them right now). But yes, Yaki space is a great place to begin striking at Paranid systems.
In a recent DiD style game I managed to steal a Heavy Centaur from the Argon, then after getting it repaired and kitted out, took it on a jaunt down through Empires Edge to Emperors Wisdom, wiping out everything I found along he way (stations too ). It took a fair bit of work....but oh so worth it

Scott -- I haven't done any "build station" missions yet...not even for myself. But I am getting ready to build some of my own stations, then put together some complexes.
Presently my 4 TL's are busy;
One Mammoth carries 'trade goods' that I've picked up along the way...
The other Mammoth is working with a Nividium mining operation..
One Elephant is holding some of the ore and silicone I need for the HUB plot..
The other Elephant is my escort mini-carrier/re-supply ship.
I know there is a lot of money in doing these types of mission...and I really should get into a few while I'm waiting for other things to come together.
Kirlack -- yeah, I'm familiar with 'that Ocracoke issue' that comes up later. When I finish up that plot, and the sector becomes available (to me) for building, it looks like a nice place...maybe for a missile complex.
The Yaki don't seem to be interested in trading and I haven't seen trade ships south of Savage Spur.
I wish I could have been along when you smacked those Paranid right in the snout!!!
I was doing some recon in the same sectors (flying not jumping). I don't know where they learned to fly (probably New Jersey) but so many of them were jammed up at the gates. There were quite a few "Oops, I'm sorry. Did you bump into my Tiger and get your ship all blown up?"
And there Dock-masters are really lazy..or just plan dumb.
It took forever to dock with many of their stations in auto. They just kept flying me around and around
Yeah...their day is coming, soon.......

Yeah, once you get that plot complete, all the Yaki sectors have a decent amount of a minerals, and then there's Savage Spur, which can support something like 400+ tech factories, after building a power core! The only issue there in fact, is whether or not your machine can cope with the lag from building so many factories in one system (mine can't or at least, not in vanilla. With the Tubeless Complex Mod it's workable).
I'd invite you to join me as crew on my HC...but as I headed through the gate from Emp Wisdom into Trinity Sanctum I got caught out by a pair of Hades...and their home Zeus A sad day for the Anti Paranid Movement

Joining your crew would have been great.
But I probably would have brought along my Blastclaw (prototype) Winnawick with a load of Hammerheads and Hornets. Not much help against such a force, but they would have told the story of our battle for generations!
I'm going to make plans for those Yaki sectors. But I won't be building there for a while yet.
My system could probably handle 50 tech factories, with the power support stations, in a sector that size.
Of course I don't see me putting that much in any one sector.
Actually for my fist station(s) I think I'm going to do a little (illegal) trading with a pirate station or two. Weed and whiskey should bring in some nice cash.
It's not what someone has done..it's about what they are about to do!

Those asteroids "east" of Zyarth's Dominion that don't show up on the map are smaller ones that can be harvested by 'mobile mining'. Some of those that are bigger need to be broken up (made smaller), but there is plenty that are small enough to have a few freighters set to "collect rocks".
Ore, Silicon, and Nividium can be found in this "rubble".

I like that sector. It currently houses my primary heavy missiles complex (Hornets and Typhoons) and is nicely out of the way, so no Pirates etc to make life difficult. Well, in vanilla at least. I'm using the 'Improved Races' mod at the moment and the Xenon decided to invade my missile 'plex I was, to say the least, not amused...

Will I be able to control all the gates ? would be nice to be easier to get in from say argon prime but not proable. I did have a kak cluster stop by but my demois and hevey centar made him go away lol
I understand ther is navidium up there also with all the cystal needed will put a plant on a ore mine and use miners to feed it maybe. Will the freighter drop there load in the hub or will I have to do it manuelly?? thanks
