Sunday night, bored, nothing on TV, flying around in my Tiger.
Found a J with heavy fighter escort moving from Black Hole Sun into Treasure Chest.
I jumped in through the West Gate in Treasure Chest and started taking out the fighters from a distance. Dropped a few Hammerhead's and half a dozen Fire-Storms to take out the J.
This fleet came out of Xenon Sector 472, so I head up there.
Right after coming out of the South Gate I'm facing my doom. Xenon ships everywhere.
I turn left and head off deep into the Sector. Four Q's, 2 PX's, some M's and a few N's in pursuit.
I knock off the fighters with a few well placed missiles while running away.
One my one I start working on the Q's. Typhoons and a few Fire-Storms do the trick but the first 2 Q's are real close and I have to shift right and left, up and down to try to keep my shields from dropping too much.
Finally, 135 km from the South Gate, I finish off the last Q.
I turn and start back. About half way a J comes into view. I fire off some more Hammerheads and Fire-Storms. I get the shields down and damage the hull down to bout 50%, I fire off some Hornets to finish the job...keeping this beast at least 12 km distance.
I resume heading back to the South Gate. Nearly there and a K shows up.
I launch off all my remaining Hammerheads and a good number of my remaining Fire-Storms and take her out.
(I like using missiles and always carry a variety, and enough, to cover most situations.)
Cleaning up the Sector's fighters while I call in a Boreas to work on the Station and the Shipyard.
Xenon Sector 472's Station and Shipyard have been gone for a little over an hour now.
N's started coming through the South Gate 30 minutes after the Station and Shipyard were destroyed.
About an hour after, M's come through in 1's and 2's. Now a single L just jumped in with a pair of M's.
I'm sitting off the South Gate picking the Xenon's off as they come through.
I've called a TL to reload my missiles and kept the Boreas by my side.
I know the game-engine will regenerate the Station and Shipyard in time.
Until them I'll keep the Sector open for commercial traffic.
The attacks against the Xenon in both Sectors took;
20 Hammerhead
78 Fire-Storm
38 Typhoons
47 Hornets
and a good number of Thunderbolts, Tempest, and Hurricane missiles.
Not a bad way to add some excitement to a other-wise boring evening.

Just took a look around some nearby Sectors...
Seems there is a Xenon fleet consisting of a K, 7 L's, and 10 M's in Family Zyarth moving towards the North Gate.
A pair of freighters and M5's just passed within spitting distance and the Xenon did not attack them.
Nor are they molesting any of the Stations they pass by.
Maybe I got someone's attention?
**another freighter, M5 and M4 just passed really close to this fleet with no problems.
Going to have to keep an eye on this group.

Sounds like you use a lot of missiles in your combat, personally only use them a little. I guess if they can do that much sector damage then I should use them more.
gz on clearing the sector, how long are gonna keep it Xenon free?

Missiles are great! I used to not use them much either. Then somebody was talking about killing M5s with them on the egosoft forums. So I started building fabs and now i feel naked without a stockpile of all kinds lol.
Weird they arnt messing with anything as they pass by, guess they have more important things to do like solve complex formulas or idle in space for weeks.

Before I turned in last night, they sent a Q through the South Gate.
My Boreas and I made short work of it.
Presently the "fleet" is in Sector Family Ryk making for the West Gate.
There is an L and an N in Black Hole Sun tearing for the North Gate.
At some point the Xenon will return in force and I'll have to abandon the Sector.
I'll hold out and see what's up with this "fleet".
Until then the tube are loaded, guns are manned, and the jump engines are warmed up.

I once spent three game days occupying 472 with my Shrike. I had a hold full of typhoons for the initial attack (and when I say a hold full I mean almost 600 ), which was my primary for taking out the defending fleet. Once that was done I just pottered around the sector flaying the nuts off the occasional Q when it spawned and letting my Flak Arrays take care of the fighters for me

Kirlack, I have factories pumping out Typhoons, Fire-Storms, Hornets, and Tempest missiles for me.
While my Tiger has a more limited cargo capacity then the Shrike, I have an Elephant TL tagging along for my resupply.
I may be able to hold 472 for longer.
A small Split force, headed up by a Heavy Dragon, did attack the Xenon fleet in Family Ryk.
The fleet has turned toward the North Gate and will shortly be in Boron territory.
There's not much fire power sitting in Ocean of Fantasy right now. The Boron might have a rough time of it if the Xenon fleet get aggressive there.
The only opposition so far have been light and from the South Gate in 472.
Nothing has yet enter the Sector from the West Gate.

Yeah, I tend to find once you've got the sector it's quite easy to hold it. 347 on the other hand is a bitch to hold, due to the frequency of spawning Q/J/Ks. 472 doesn't seem to have that problem, although the standing defence fleet the machines have in that sector does seem to be somewhat larger.
As for the missiles, I also produce all those you list, but I've found that for cap to cap combat all I need is Typhoons. I save my Tempests for my fighters, & Hornets and Firestorms for my corvettes.
The entire north eastern corner of the universe, with the possible exception of Getsu Fune, seems to have a very hard time defending against the machine menace. For some reason I rarely see Xenon coming down out of 534 to cause trouble, yet there's a steady stream of them rolling out of 597 and then moving south/west to reinforce their other sectors. Maybe it's because I deliberately stay away from that corner, whereas I regularly take trips through the other xenon sectors for uhm....recreation?

I've been in 534. Not a fun place unless you have the firepower to back yourself up.
Re-spawn gets pretty harsh in there. But your right, not much comes down out of that Sector.
I've spent quite a bit of time in 597. Get past the one or two Q's sometimes sitting at the Gate, and it's not too bad. A Q or 2 will show up, but mostly M3's and M4's. I've made through 597's North Gate, into 596, a few times. Busy place there!
347 is one of my old stomping grounds, back early in my game.
Not too bad if you're fast enough and get lucky at the gates. But to put up a fight, firepower and company is a must. I've been through there with my Tiger, and a pair of M2's-a Titan and a Python. We were able to stay there for a fair bit of time, but your right about that damned spawning. We couldn't stay there forever.
Next time I visit one of the "busy" Xenon Sectors I might take my 4 M8 Gladiators along and let them loose.
As for missiles, I like the mix on my personal ship.
Can never tell what ant-hill I might have to kick over in my travels.
**Update: That Xenon fleet is heading for 597, presently in Menalaus' Paradise. It's been chewed up a bit. Down to 3 M's, 5 L's and the K.
Might chance a jump to MP's North Gate..see what trouble I can get into

Thank you...so will I.
Now, it seems that while I sit my happy butt in 472, large Xenon fleets are running around in sectors to the NE and SE of 472. Many times there are 2 of these fleets out there at the same time.
These fleets are headed by a J or a K, with 15 to 20+ fighters in escort.
Of all the Races, only the Split will engage these fleets rigorously.
Jonferco military units will also engage when Xenon ships enter their Sector.
By the time I go deal with these fleets, they've been knocked back a little.
The largest Xenon entry into 472 so far has been back-to-back pair of Q's.
Mostly single M5's and M4's with the occasional M5.
It's not what someone has done..it's about what they are about to do!

Yeah, they spawn reinforcements in any of the 7 sectors to the east of 472 (and sometimes from 347 or even as far away as 101), and send them on their route down to 472. I've quite often looked at the ship info for a migrating Xenon capital and noticed it's destination is listed as 472, after I've been through there and beaten 'em up There was a topic on the ES forums a while back that concluded there are 9 different Xenon migration routes leading to or passing through 472, so they get a lot of reinforcements. Plus the ships that naturally spawn there, makes it a fun sector to hold.
Have you ever tried blockading their sectors to stop them getting out? I've seen people swear by 3x Osaka class M2 per gate being the best way to stop them ever encroaching on Commonwealth space. Bloody expensive though

I guess once you broken the back of a sector, its kind-of hard for them to get the sector back. Its not like they respawn all the ships are once, just odd ships every so often. Well, unless a I or something spawns?

Not on good enough terms with the Terran to buy their capital ships, yet.
But I can quickly get my hands on a large number of Boreas, and properly arm them with Gauss Cannons, Ion Cannons, plenty of PPC's. I've got some cash stashed away (5.5+B) for just such needs and I've been squirreling away all the large weapons I can get my hands on.
And to go with the Gauss Cannons, I've completed a munitions Complex that produce plenty of Gauss ammo.
Those Xenon fleets coming via the southern route are getting nicely chewed up long before they get near 472. Those coming out of the the northern sectors get hit by the Split, but not so much chewed up as those in the south.

Alrighty now...
Xenon starting to launch fleets of impressive size. Mostly south out of 598 heading for 472.
Presently there is a Xenon fleet consisting of a K, a P, 2 LX, 14 L, 21 M, and 8 N in Belt of Aquilar.
Earlier fleets have reduced the Jonferco defenses here so they are coming through without being molested.
This is on top of the 3 Q's in Black Hole Sun (one sector down) heading my way.
I just took out another J fleet that entered Zyarth's Dominion from 598, with a total of 19 ships.
