Ok, this is my first post on the "new" site (roguey.freewha anyone? ), so it's going to be a bit long.
First of i'd like to THANK YOU roguey,PJM, Killertide, Crip67, =DC=Shadow and everyone else who contributed to the X3R mod. Many many thanks.
Honestly said, I doubt I'd play X3 ...or even buy it if it wasn't for this mod.
Well, I bought the game....the linux version that is, and it's working fine, but I've got minor problems with it. First of all...I had to delete the 00800 from MOV....since it crashes the game on linux it seems....maybe some other linux users have some insight? Maybe it's just my codecs or something. Well anyway, I wanted to ask what is it for at all?
another problem I've noticed is, I've installed the GUI mini-mod, but to no avail...it doesn't change anything....maybe it's just the linux version or something....but maybe someone has some insight.
Oh and yes...roguey, you said you won't work on the mod anymore on the old site....I'm glad you changed your mind. I'm still willing to help out
In other news, I suggest everyone to use Leveling AI with this mod. The unclustering, the more FPS and the Leveling AI seem to work together, as I can see some SERIOUS improvements in the AI overal.
Now on the Wulfen topid....one word: INSANE!
It's powerful and beautiful. I'm using it as my main ship for now and it's serving me well. Even more, altrough it's extremelly powerful, it's not "over-the-top"...I can take on almost anything alone ...well except the R and T....which prove to be SERIOUS enemy's. Anyway, I almost thought it's too powerfull...until I run into a xenon convoy. 2xPv2, 4xL, some M, and N.....the made almost short work of me......I barelly managed to get the first P out of the way when my shields went down. After that I saw a couple more times my shield failing (trying to attack a J on my own....). So it's perfect, strong enough to make the M7 class valuable, but not too strong.
Also it seems that the mod bring new life to the universe, since sometimes stations are created by some "corporations" (oceania inc.? ) which really makes it more fun and challenging to actually get a trade empire going.
Well now for some questions, first and foremost....HOW do I claim a sector?...what's the rules about that...didn't find any info in the .rtf
Second of all...is there a "complete" ship list? E.g. having all the ships in it you added. I don't care about stats...just pics....I'm somewhat of an collector of beautiful ships
Ok, now for some suggestions.....well first I'd like to suggest getting stations an overhaul.
The all look almost the same...it would be nice to have them a bit unique at least....if some modelers are for it (the XTM boron shipyard anyone?....I'd love to see this in this mod.).
My main reason for this is...it's hard to make complexes....since even if I manage to link the stations nicelly...the hub get's placed a bit wierd...maybe I'm missing some tricks or something.
Also a suggestion...maybe some more TL's....it would be interesting to have the yaki the pirates and terran have their own TL's.....that should add a bit of work for us collectors
Other then that...if you are thinking of adding new sectors...might I suggest something....how about making them south of the current map...and making somewhat of a "new" map...consisting only of border/pirate/xenon/etc sectors.....so it's a wild place full of possibiletis
Well I think I rambled enough and should let others say something too.
PS: the suggestions are not something that I'm "missing" in game, just ideas I had.
PSS: Thanks again everyone who devoted their time to this mod....it's really a pleasure to play. hope it get's developed more

Well technically, the site is still that that location. Its just that last june/july time I brought a domain name for the site 'roguey.co.uk'. Since then its been easier to section up the site into sub-sites, such as the forums, x3, tc etc.
Many thanks! Its a shame that I have no longer in-contact with many of them. Hopefully one day they might return and post something on the forum.

Are you renaming the dat/cat to the next free number inside the main X3 folder? ie. if you see 09.dat, rename both files 10.dat, 10.cat.
It sounds like you dont have the decode installed. You could try renaming it to .avi and see if it will play in linux as normal. I got a feeling it will saying you have a missing video decoder.

Oh yeah completely forgot. I LOVE the movie you made for tribute to the X series. it really fits the series nicely. Btw. I'm thinking I'm gonna make a couple screenshots, and post them on my server (easier then imageshack). if you want I can make a small gallery there and you add some too

Thanks for the offer. I dont know if you know but this site is coded in php. php looks very similar to C. I am normally the only one who works on the code.

Seriously through. if it's about coding I'm ready to help, just don't expect me to do anything in CSS....I still can't make a site centered and divs where I want 'em to stand....but a Distributed Laplace Calculations Program I made in 3 days......jesus....some of us really aren't for graphics
About the pictures, I was thinking more in the way of random stuff I like. some sector pictures @ 1920x1200, some ship pics, maybe a battle or two. If I manage to make a nice complex I might add a picture etc., so...just random stuff from X3 and your mod.
btw. is it possible to make the dds more then one. like 3 or 4, like with the billboards. So when I play and dock at one of my complexes I get different billboards. Would be fun

Well php is quite straight forward, however with php you need to know a second language: mysql. The two languages work together, php for coding and mysql for databasing. So if you know C, you will think php is easy as pie

It is possible, however to get them to cycle though the images you need to edit a few files in the mod:
- Change the billboard model to use the texture use -105.dds
- Setup a new Animation in /types/animations,
- Make required images,
- Then add all the files to the mod,
In other words its much easier to use one
and btw, the sector should have things in it, maybe everything got attacked? things like this will happen in the x3 mod.

you put all that work into making custom sectors with cool ships and custom stations.
and you make these sweet scripts that have random sector attacks by, sometimes large fleets of zenon and or Khaak.

well that was my idea - the X universe was too quiet - especially later in the game. An odd pirate, Khaak or Xenon isnt much of a challenge, but equally you dont want to jump into a sector with 15 capital ships.

Wise ass Well I just use it, never came across anything which couldnt be solved with the smaller mysql version. I did some at college, although no where as complex. I often have to do cross-linking, joins etc. The forum had a few big sql commands - the whole site is coded by me btw.

That was another aim of the mod. I felt when you got the M7, then you were king of everything. Nothing could really challenge you, however with other M7's and M0's, the M7 class no longer looks the best. This should extend the game further... well that was my aim anyway.
Just hope there was nothing "really" special there that Ill miss out on now.

Some wont like sector attacks, but felt it was necessary. There should always be skirmishes around and when I was playing vanila I felt there wasnt enough around when I got a M6/7.

Its good to hear other stuff working with the mod. I did try and make the mod as compatible as possible, however the mod changes soo much this can be difficult.

1. saw the killertide ship, it's still in the sector as patrol.
Didn't have a chance to take a closer look, so I'll post when I have seen it.
2. Another BIG praise. I was always a fan of strategy games (I know you like C&C, even did a mod for Generals).
Anyway, with classic rules the strategy of combat is intense, it's not just cannon fooder and Heavy artillery anymore, it's tactics, retreats, choosing locations where to fight, using decoys, even lasertowers (gotta try squash mines in a fight ), it's the THINK part that I was missing in vanilla.
3. Love the M6+, M3+ and other ships you added. I really feel like each is complementing a special role in my little army (or should I say navy?....maybe AirForce.....meh my military), Gotta say you really put some thought in this. The Hydra Tug, small attack carrier, very interesting choice, and suits the boron thinking, the Dragon MK2 Raider, delivering the APPC punch with speed, and still keeping up with flaks etc. with 1GJ shielding, the Sentinel with it's many turrets can work magic on those darn fighter crafts.
4. M7 class: I got myself an R (thanks ), it's a great ship, really fit's the xenon attack style (especially when having less shielding ), the Wulfen is magic for me for now. I LOVE it, it's beautiful Split design, with lots of anti-fighter capabilities, but limited to that because of lack of PPC's, which is EXACTLY what I expect from the split. Gotta get the Themis now, but love the specs already
Well...only one that is left is the hyperion....I never knew what to think of it, and I still don't.
5. I REALLY think egosoft should offer you a job in leading the ship/fight stuff of the X series m8

I cant take all the credit for classic rules stats, because Gomorragh and Jjhawk both helped with classic rules. They planned the stats, which made it easier for me to edit the ships.

Well.. the aim of the mod was to add missing features. I felt that the M7 class was big leap from the M6, so I thought a M6+ would bridge the gap. Without the M6+ range I felt the gap was too big.

I really thought ego dropped the ball with this ship. A new class of ship for one ship which was over-powered because their was nothing else like it. Adding more M7's ship was important, as I felt it would re-balance the game again. What fun is it when you have the only M7 in existence?

Thankyou very much! Ego have never really supported me in the past: when X3 was popular and mods were all the range, egosoft promoted one mod, and only mod only: XTM. They even host/hosted their download. Ego never mention anything about my mod, nor anyone else. After on we all found out that X3TC was heavily based on XTM which annoyed me a bit. This is why the X3TC site was very slowly worked on. I felt ego never tried to support the community, they didnt post information on any other mods - not that ego had to post news on my mod. In their posts it should of been the top 3 mods. I did okay with hits because of my X3 site and not ego! Quite a few other mods had a hard time. It just felt very biased.
I just want to say that nothing of my mod has been copied from any other mod (apart from EMP but that a community mod).

personally I feel like ego is just going with the flow of the others....making a space shooter rather then the X series....playing XTM or FreeLancer isn't that much of a difference (and yes I tried both), so they are really leaning towards that...but on the other side....they really don't have a choice....either that or the game doesn't get sold. It's kinda a problematic age right now, and filling a hole in the market isn't enough anymore. I guess there ain't that many old-school players around anymore, and noone wants to take a month to get some progress in the game....so it's kinda a logical step.
But atleast they are trying to stay partially true, with working on their scripting engine.....this atleast gives folks like you a chance to make a game for ...well us...the ones who don't care about XTM (except their boron shipyard...gotta give credit where credit is due )....What I want to say is...don't give up man, let's see what they'll make with X-rebirth and if it's worth anything....But without folks that mod this games they WILL die out....and we'll be left with a couple million more COD clones....just in space probably....

I get what your saying and understand, although it is a shame egosoft are making their games more arcade like. I guess like you said they got to appeal to the mass market.
I didnt like how egosoft lack supporting the community when mod teams were putting in a lot of effort into the game. They could of reviewed or even just give a run down of the current mods in progress. I guess the average user didnt know about all the great mods which were being worked on.
I hope egosoft dont forget about their community.

hope so too.....with sandbox games it's allways the community that really makes them enjoyable and I really hope the folks @ ego know that. Else they will not just lose a community but also a whole lot of customers
On a side note through, I don't play TC unless it gets to Linux and you bring classic rules to it....didn't try it yet, but know that much....
Well the important thing is, that the moders enjoy their work, if so there will always be something good in this games.
I think that even if the make X-rebirth complete c**p, we still have X3R as a good base, and it's quite heavilly scriptable, so with enough willpower it's possible to "enlighten 'em" (with BHEPTS)
