X3AP had been freezing up on me ever since i installed it in January.
The computer would lock up, only rebooting the PC would make it usable again...
the problem was getting worse to the point where i would play 2 minutes and then it would lock up again...
i had already visited the forums and found nothing useful...
i googled the problem: X3AP computer freeze
i noticed an entry for WOW describing the same problem...
it said the problem is a conflicting sound issue, so i screwed around with the Control Panel with no good results...
finally i just unplugged my speakers altogether and left my headphones plugged in...
i've been playing the game with no problems ever since...

i don't know if this solution will solve everyone's problem, but it solved mine...

just sharing...

thats strange; unplugging your speakers fixed the problem. Are your speakers USB or anything?

no, they have the little pin jack that plugs into the green hole...
my game finally froze this morning after about 1.5 hours of play...
that's good enough for me...
i just have to maintain diligence and save often...

is it an old pc or something? I just dont see how a jack plug on a soundcard would effect the pc from crashing. I think something else might be happening.

no, less than 2 years old...
it's a beast... 1996 gigs hard drive... (2 terrabytes)
all the best of everything at the time i bought it...

Well without a lot more information its hard to say what is happening. It could simply be a software issue, or even a hardware one. I very much doubt its anything to do with the jack plug. Did you put the system together yourself, or buy ready-made?

Built in sound card on the motherboard?
Check the power supply by swapping with a known good one and check ram with memtest.
I have seen where it can also be a bad motherboard/sound chip.
Newegg has sound cards fairly cheap you can try if everything else passes.
