so i solved the crashing problem...
and now a new one has raised it's ugly head...
when i try to open the game i get a notice:

Error Opening Video
check you display settings
further information can be found in your manual or readme.txt

any ideas?

Sounds like you have a codec issue. I recommend posting in the tech support forums on the Egosoft site: https://forum.egosoft.com/viewforum.php?f=93

When does this happen? in-game?
