Here are couple of RPGs I could easily recommend to give a try. They are both available for free.

Unreal World RPG: http://urw.fi/
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup: http://crawl.develz.org/

Oh RPG games; its been awhile since I played those types of games (the pure ones). Nowadays MMO/Action/3D has kind-of merged into PRG, so I have trouble separating some genres (if you get what I mean). I guess the only true RPG I still do from time-to-time is Heroes of Might and Magic (but that's a hybrid)? I guess Zelda (on the SNES) and Castle of the Wins were two RPG I used to play. Is Zelda an RPG or an action game? geez its confusing.

Yeah, there RPG elements included pretty much every games nowadays. I think it is fine because it gives player a bit more freedom to play a character and makes game more replayable.

Heh, it's quite hard to put any game strictly into some certain genre. One of my favorite games - Crusader Kings 2 - is a strategy game with RPG elements. It is not uncommon to see people describing the game as "soap opera RPG" or something similar Smile. Upcoming DLC "Way of Life" will add more RPG features.

Kickstarter has brought PC gamers (consoles in future?) some excellent RPG games to play; Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2. More to come; Pillars of Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera

Chris Keenan: "Along with continued tuning of Wasteland 2, myself and a few others at the studio are beginning to work on another RPG that has been passionately demanded of us for a while now! It’s still quite early in the process, but we will have more news on that in the New Year."

Exciting times. Great to see Kickstarter and Early Access bringing back RPGs for PC. I'm still going to buy/play Dragon Age: Inquisition despite it has strong MMO feeling and made for consoles. Expectations are not high which is good.

Well I must admit im not so much of a fan of the turn-based style of RPG, or the sword and shield RPG either... sometimes I have exceptions, but generally I dont play those types of games. I think for me I like more real-time action games if that makes sense. Maybe its something to do with decision making or something? if that makes sense?

However with the PC, there is a very large range of games. So there is bound to be something for everyone, and everything for everyone.

Yep, this. It is good to have many types of games but unfortunately many genres were more or less dead for a sometime - until Kickstarter and Early Access came to rescue Smile

Do you like Dragon Age series?

True, its a shame it takes a Kickstarter project for developers to realise.

Ive played the first one on the PS3, I think I platinum'ed it too (got all the trophies/achievements). It was dif. okay, but needed more work to it - although being the first game, it was understandable. Have EA screwed it up? Just they have a habit of doing things like that.

Well, I guess many gamers who liked the first one (DA:Origins) could think EA ruined the franchise. In the other hand DA is more popular than ever befora and it has many new gamers, so in that sense the franchise is a huge success.

DA2 was pretty much a disaster in all ways. It was made in two years which really showed and the game flopped badly.

The latest one (DA:Inquisition) has got lots of good reviews and many seems to like it. It is very different compared to DA:O; MMO elements, action packed fights instead of tactics just like DA2, etc. I'm those who likes turn-based (or pause) and tactical combat much better than DA2 and DA:I kind of action games.

Gamers who likes 90's style cRPGs can forget EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda, etc. The only way to get those games are Kickstarter and Early Access. inXile kind of express their opinion about the state of cRPGs in Torment: Tides of Numenera trailer (around ~3 mins).

It could be possible that inXile is going to work on "the real Fallout 3" in future.

Well personally thought the first Dragon:Age was okay, but needed more polish. Sounds like EA rushed the second game for money - something I really dont like, and something EA does all the time unfortunately. Still havnt forgave them for destroying the C&C franchise.

Im not sure how I feel about Torment: Tides of Numener. There looks quite a bit of talking and those dialogue boxes are rather large.

In the article you linked, why was the author talking about a connection between Wastelands 2 and Fallout? Confused

It would be interesting to know what happened to DA2. DA:I uses DICEs game engine and maybe the decision to switch to that happened during DA2 work; they thought the game was good enough as half-ready for a release and they wanted it from under the way so they could start to work on DA:I with the new engine.

At least during Wasteland 2 development cycle inXile had good communication with the gamers and hopefully they still do it during Torment development cycle. I'm not worried about graphical or UI problems. They have been improving Wasteland GUI as well after the release.

I guess Fallout is considered as a spiritual successor to original Wasteland. Wasteland 2 gameplay is quite different compared to original Wasteland and reminds more Fallout 1 and 2.

I like the situation we have now. Bethesda is working on first person Fallout games and inXile is working on isometric "Fallout" games. Something for everyone. Of course there are more differences under the hood than just how the games looks.
