I'm thinking of getting a DLC such as Cradle of Humanity. My question is, do I have to start again with nothing or are all my assets, ships, credits etc. carried over?

im pretty sure you can carry on, with having access to the extra content.

Why would you need to get rid of your current game? Cradle of Humanity is an expansion, and you can get the additional content in your existing saves just by buying and installing it.
