I've been having success capturing M and L size ships lately by destroying their hard points, and slowly doing damage once shields are below 25% and hull below 75%. I know that there is a chance for the crew to bail every time you get a voice line from the enemy, which seems to be spaced about every 30 seconds or so.

My question is, can NPC ships that belong to me also cause crew to bail? Let's say I disable all the hard points on a L ship, and whittle it down to low shields/hull, could I assign something small, say and Asp fighter with a single gun, and let it slowly cause crew to bail while pornhub I move on to other targets?

Thanks in advance for the discussion!

Short answer: YES.

Long answer: It depends.

Egosoft reintroduced NPC vs. NPC bailing in 4.0 (originally a X3AP mechanic) but removed it again shortly after for non-player-faction NPC. This means NPCs of your faction can still bail enemy ships but won't bail themselves. That said NPC bailing rarely happens since the AI is kinda trash at that side of combat in general. Far more likely either ship will blow the other up before the first bail roll even happens. Or well they'll circle each other for hours without even knocking out the shields despite having a full array of ion blasters Dunce

A far more lucrative route is to com neutral ships and tell them to bail while they're fighting some other faction. Might take a couple of tries but they will still bail eventually as long as the conditions for bailing rolls are met when you com them. I haven't had a chance to try this on capitals yet, but I assume it works to reduce their crew as well since they're using the same mechanics to my knowledge.
