I'm training up all my Marines so I'm sitting in Zyarth's Dominion, waiting.
For the past couple of game-days different ship-owners have been offering me their ships.
No biggie. Got an M3 or two, couple M4's, a TP, an M6, and some TS's.

One of the TS purchases I made was interesting.
It was a Vulture Hauler. I'm not a big fan of Vultures or Dolphins but I figure what the heck.
I moved it from the Shipyard to the Trading Post for the speed/cargo/steering thing (not much need with these).

That's when I notice it's got a hefty amount of upgrades, weapons/missiles, and full shields--plus, it's carrying cargo!
107 crystals, 1346 massom powder, 425 stott spices, 69 meatsteak cahoonas, and more!!!
A total of 4175 cargo spaces of goodies.

I paid about 200,000cr less then buying an "S" model from a Teladi Shipyard and the hull was at 85%.

I've made ship purchases before and gotten shields, weapons, some upgrades, and a few times Marines, but this is the first time getting a TS half loaded with cargo.

Anyone else get so much cargo with a ship purchase?

Nice find, I usually dont bother with them to be honest. As normally I get a load of junk, and later in the game 200k starts becoming a bit meaning-less. I dont think ive seen even a M6 for offer.. oh well.

Really?
I've picked up a number of M6's. A couple of (4) Dragons, a Centaur, a pair of Osprey, and one Hydra so far.
Between these guys I've picked up about 20 Marines too, some nicely trained already.

I don't think there's any real trick to finding good ship deals.
When I enter a Sector, I check all the Stations showing any symbol to see if they have any docked ships. Then I fly near and see if the docked ship is for sale.

Watching for these "deals" is a great way to pick up the rare and unique craft/ships.
I just pick up 2 Iguana Vanguards at the same time from the same Station...both at great prices!

I do most of my buying at Shipyard too.
But sometimes you just can't pass up when a really good deal comes along.

Plus you can't ignore the possible profits from immediately reselling the ship you just got from a pilot.
I've made anywhere from 20% to 40% "as-is" at the nearest Shipyard.
A few time, the profit % has been very high...especially those 'rare' and 'unique' ships that get offered for sale.

definitely have to try getting a few then, never really thought you could make much profit from it.
Plus if there's a chance to get some unique stuff - all the better.

I also find it a good way to make some quick cash when I start a new game.
But the old "Let the buyer be ware" definitely applies in these games.

My best purchases come from ships that are docked at Stations. These ships often have some equipment and upgrades installed--sometimes a lot of it Wink

I get good ships that are in-space, where the pilot bails, but the pilot seems to take all weapons, shields, and upgrades with them. So they are usually bare-boned and in need of some hull repair.

It's a good idea to know the 'new purchase' price of what you are about to buy from a pilot or from a Station by checking the ships guide.

I also "save" my game before making any purchase just in case it turns out that it's not worth it after the deal is made.

Found this little prize a few minutes ago. They apparently charged for the stuff on board but was totally worth it.

Nice 'steal'. Beer
Those 2 nicely trained Marines really add to the value.

A few of my nicest 'steals' have been docked at Stations other then Shipyards.
Many of my M6's acquisitions (with Marines, upgrades, and equipment) weren't from Shipyards.

I have never had the opportunity to buy a second hand M6, much to my dismay. Congrats on that steal though, I do like me those Paranid marines :p

I still have yet to find an M6 for sale. Does it have anything to do with your trade rank? I ask because I just hit Magnate when I found that TM. That is the only TM and coincidentally the largest ship class I have ever found for sale.

@Seygantte - thats the first thing I thought of when I looked at those marines lol.

I don't know but I'm going to guess that it does. And possibly how far along in your game you are---played game-days.

In my game, Humble Merchant start, after I located the derelict Iguana Vanguard (which became my personal ship) I started locating other Iguana Vanguards offered for sale. (This is the only 2 ways to get this ship.)
I had several TS's by this time and a fairly good trading rep with the Argon, the Boron, and the Split.

After doing a lot of passenger transfer mission (and making a few million credits per mission) in Split territory, Boa TM's started becoming available from pilots at different stations. I picked up all that I saw. I like them, with fighters docked, for freighter protection and person escort.

I was a long way into my game before I noticed M6's becoming offered.
I'm trying to remember (my game is just under 100 game-days long) when I started getting M6 offers, but I think it was some where around 70 game-days. Might have been earlier and I just didn't notice.

Again, most of the "best" M6's I got were NOT offered from Shipyards.
I got in the habit of checking all the Stations in a Sector that have a 'mission icon'--and not just the orange "C". As we know, Stations often of have more then one mission being offered and only the most recent mission being offered had it's mission icon showing.

The M6's that I got that weren't from Shipyards had the most equipment and Marines on board.
I purchased several Dragons, a few Ospreys, a pair of Hydra's so far...these not offered at Shipyards.

I recently was offered, and purchased, 2 Centaur that were in-space...stripped completely bare after the pilot bailed, but priced too good not to pick up.

I have found this information in this link very helpful when I'm offered ships for sale at Stations.
It lists all craft in TC and the frequency you will/will not find them.

I appreciate nponoBegHuk for taking the time to research and post this over on the ES site.

Just found my first M6 for sale. A hydra. It came full of CIGs, max shielding, 5 crappy marines a jumpdrive and max cargo upgrades. I im now at Super-Magnate trade rank (2% when found).

Another ship for some patrols i guess.
