Unless you have the illegal ship extension System Override Software (available from all good pirate bases), you need to eject from your current ship, get your space suit within 35 metres of the target and THEN claim it.

SOS will get you into trouble with police as it's illegal in all race sectors. Also you can't claim ships bigger than M3 class unless they're part of a return abandoned ship mission.

no you dont. if you turn up the view distance to at least high you should be able to spot it from very far away. they sometimes spawn way out there, 100km+ from the center of the sector in some cases.

Just to clarify: You don't have to have SOS, you can just eject from your ship and claim the abandoned ship you found from your space suit.

With regards to pirate bases, they tend to get wiped out by the various military patrols, new ones will spawn within 3-4 sectors of the original. The one in Nathan's Voyage has probably been destroyed in your game, hence you can't find it.

The Pirate Base will keep getting destroyed where is spawns until it is in a sector that the Races really don't care about.

In TC, as long as you not carrying illegal stuff in your 'personal ship' you are OK when the Poe-Poe show up.
I think it works the same in AP.
So just load the SOS in an escorting ship.

As long as you can load it in a ship different then your own.
Salvage Insurance stays with the pilot, I don't believe SOS does--I think it stays with the ship it's loaded on to (could be wrong).

No, you're right, SOS is a ship upgrade not a pilot item. However, if you are worried about the fuzz look into buying the Software Signature Scrambler from Duke's Haven in sector Heaven Assertion. It will make the SOS undetectable.

Thanks for making that more clear.
Sometimes I forget how nicely devious this game can be Wink
