Website going back, to white

It all started with a redesign of the front page, now I am redesigning much of the site. I was not happy with the front page – to me it felt 'ugly' and 'squashed'. In process of redesigning the front page, I felt white was a better colour scheme. It will take me a few days to change all the pages to the new format, so bare with me. many thanks,
