The upstairs project 2016 (Page 6)
Day three
In the past couple of days we been removing stuff; so today we started to install the first window. We choose to work-on one of the existing windows - as we thought it be easier seeing that the first window is usually the most trickiest (getting used to the process). So after a short amount of time the old window was removed (in area 2); it was simply the case of removing the glass (which has a catch when you swing the whole window around), then removing the frame. The next thing we needed to do was to widen the space - the new window isnt going in the same position. So it was the case of removing a lot of the roof tiles, then cutting the roof joists like so;So with this wider gap, we need to build a timber frame to support the roof and window. This took awhile because the first window determine the positioning of all the other windows. You think it would be easy since we worked out their spacing however you have to thinking about the height of the window too. Too high then it wouldn't very comfortable looking out of, and too low you could bang on your head on it. So after a long time we finally installed the support-work;
However we ran out of time, we had to put some under-felt in the gap to make somewhat weather resistant - hopefully it wont rain during the next couple of days. So tomorrow we back on the first window, hopefully we get it installed tomorrow.
