I love the Springblossom. It has enough firepower for most plot missions, and is faster than most M4's. You can dart out, take down a Khaak corvette and zip back to the convoy before the scouts get close. I'm thinking you'll like some fighter drones to deal with the smaller foes, as Springblossom's turrets can't do much and it has a slow turn speed.

The spring blossom is good .I used it before, arming it is tough. Very fast, was thinking about commwealth ships will keep it in mind

Oh my, yes. The Aldrin-style weapons are difficult to accumulate. I just slapped EEMPC's all over, but I yearn for heavier weapons.

Good gunships? M6 wise, the Heavy Centaur, Skiron, Heavy Osprey, Katana and the PX; basically anything with 3 sets of guns with 2 guns per turret, then 8 guns on front makes a good gunship, as its all about heavy, all-round defence, and high number if guns. Even if you stick PAC's or EBC's on the turrets, it's more about weapons, rather than speed or shields. With M7s, it's gotta be the Thresher, Shrike, Tiger and the Cerberus for anti-fighter. For the M2's, anything but Terran is a good idea (I don't like the Terran cruisers because their guns don't do enough damage for the rate of fire, PPC's have soooo much higher DPM).

If you're flying it yourself I'd suggest either a Shrike, a Tiger or a Panther. They're all awesome, but all for different reasons, so whichever one suits your play style best.

If you're looking for M6 wingmen though, I'd go with fleets of heavy dragons. Between the high end speed for their class, the 600Mj of shielding and the high grade weapons generator on Split ships, 3-4 of these bad boys should be a solid asset. I quite often blaze around Xenon sectors in my Shrike with 4 Heavy Dragons as support. Arm them with ISR/HEPT/PAC in the main, PBG in the turret and a load of Typhoon missiles Big grin That ought to be enough to handle anything the game throws at you.

You want an M6 that is fast, well shielded and a ton of guns? Well, don't we all? Smile Of course, because of balance, that combo rarely happens, so your kinda stuck for choice. There is only 4 ships that have plenty of guns and shields, who also happen to go over or nearby to 150m/s: The Spring-blossom (which you already know the disadvantage for); the Hyperion (which is hard to get hold of and needs the PHQ for more); the Heavy Centaur Prototype (which has the same problem as the Hyperion) or the Skiron, which would be the easiest choice as you can just buy it, it has heavy shields, good weapons, and lots of them.

Conclusion? Buy more Skirons! Make a fleet of the buggers! Need firepower? get 5-10 to escort you, that'll make M2's cry! I would advise that if your going to have a defense fleet of Skirons, don't fly one yourself, fly a nice M7.

The M7 I recommend for that situation would be: the Panther! It can hold multiple wings of fighters, is fast, and can take out an M2 by itself! Just stick 6 IBL's on the front turret, and choose 'Attack My Target' on the front turret and it might as well be a front gun! Then stick Flaks on each other turret, or PALC's on the sides if you have them! It will kill EVERYTHING! Plus it holds most/all of your escort fighters!

*EDIT actually, reading your comment Kirlack, I can't help but agree, heavy dragons are awesome. Personally (you don't have to do it), I wouldn't have PBG's on the top, since they can be challenging to get and I've had bad experiences with them before; I'd go for PBE's...

Yeah, a lot of folks have bad run ins with PBGs and friendly fire (no pun intended :p ) incidents. However I like 'em on my Heavy Dragons because their turrets are on top but can face foward. With the turret set to 'attack my target', you get a literal fire breathing dragon, and anything in it's path will get incinerated.

Because They back up my Shrike, and my Shrike runs with it's own 8 Eclipse fighter wing, I never see my own ships getting roasted. Plus, with the M6 toting Typhoons they've got a pretty long punch Wink

Kirlack, that is a frikkin awesome idea! Mind if I steal? Heavy drags, skirons and my vidar are the only M6s I'm gonna use now (and of course the Hyperion when I get it, but that beast is more than a M6). Would putting 8 ISR on the front of a heavy drag be a good idea, or should I mix and match?

I tried the defending sector 931 mission a few times in my springblossom, but I seem to have a problem with that mortality thing. Argon ships seem to have an emphasis on turrets... Would say a Cerberus or Skiron be best for the anti-Khaak missions?

The Cerberus is a fantastic Flak frigate, piloting or having one as an escort means that if you were having problems with fighters, you wont anymore! And don't worry, it will handle itself against M6's just fine...

The Skiron, Heavy Osprey and Katana have the advantage of plenty of turrets and 1000mJ worth of shielding, so any of them will excel against light-to-heavy fighters, it's just that the Skiron also just so happens to be the fastest out of that lot; but the question is, What are you facing? If the Khaak are sending squads of 3 corvettes and loads of Fighters, most things will die pretty quickly, even the seeming invincible Vali; this is all dependent on your fight rank, and if it's too high, an M6 just won't cut it...

Or, of course, you can go with Kirlack's technique of barbequeing them before they can even press the trigger for their pathetic 'Pew-Pew' lasers; you can use the Heavy Dragon for this to close the distance quickly; or you could use the Heavy Osprey's survivability to do it with 3 turrets worth of dual flame-throwers; or even better, you combine the 2 and use the Heavy Centaur Proto to do this while cruising at a nice 154m/s! But I have to say, I'd put my hard earned cash on the Cerberus, because if you have the money, it will dismantle fighters faster than the Khaak can spawn them!

I like your idea just because having the *4* PBG's slaved to 'Attack my Target' reduces the chances of friendly fire (lol), and also I love the Heavy Dragon anyway. What do you reckon though, 8 ISR, 8 HEPT/EBC or a mix of both? Or do I throw in some PBE's?

EBCs and PBEs will do, you'll be able to hit M5s through M2s, and the EBCs will keep sustained weapons fire on larger targets. You can swap the PBEs for ISRs if you want a bigger range, but you sacrifice your capacity to hit smaller targets.

If your Dragons are flying as wingmen to...well, pretty much any Frigate, you shouldn't need to worry much about fighters, as they almost all pack Flak of one kind or another Wink
