The recent shut-down of the X4 site

As you many of seen, the X4 site has been off-line for a couple of days. This wasnt something I wanted to do; the whole reason to create content is to help people whether its a map, stats or just advice or tips. As you can imagine creating content takes many hours, from design, coding, testing and updating. To the end-user everything should just work, regardless of the amount of parts behind the scene.

When the X4 site was created it was designed to use the same files as the game; remember that X4 has been created by a team of developers and my X4 site is only by me. When Split Vendetta was released, support for DLC patching was added. I know most of this doesnt really matter to you, but hopefully gives you an idea of how much time is spent coding.

So recently big update was released (v4.0) and the second DLC - Cradle of Humanity. I had been following the progress of both of these - making time to revisit X4 and start adding/updating content. Days went past and nothing happen. So it looked like we been forgotten about again. We were forgotten about during the Split Vendetta release (only getting a copy after someone contacting them on our behalf). This put a bit of a downer on the first DLC for me.

Every so often I check around to see whats happening - some guys were saying that the shield stats were wrong in the ship pages. So I started looking into why; found out that I was counting shields part of a group, so fixed it. At this point I was thinking it was sad that I cant add the Cradle of Humanity content. They really forgotten about me again?

At this point I wondered if anyone really cared about the site, so I shut-down the X4 site. Its not something I wanted to do, the whole reason to create content is to help others out. I dont want to spend time writting code to block content, nor spend countless more hours developing/updating content if no one is that bothered about it.

After a few days and have recieved many supporting messages including one from Egosoft (Cradle of Humanity content should be added soon now). Hopefully we can put all this behind us now and get on with enjoying the game, creating content and having fun. You guys are the best and one of the reasons I do this. I am sorry for the recent down-time. I hope you all stay safe and well!
