Scrap Processor (ware)

The Jump Gate shutdown left many sectors with very limited access to resources, prompting stranded Argon engineers to begin development of advanced recycling facilities. One of these was the Scrap Processor; a module designed to process S and M-sized ship wrecks into scrap, which in turn can be recycled into other useable resources. The first Tug ships were also introduced at this time, to transport the wrecks to the Scrap Processor. Scrap Cubes were a later introduction, designed to allow larger wrecks to be compacted into blocks suitable for towing and processing.

The arrival of the first interstellar messenger drones after the Fall of the Gates encouraged the administrations of many sectors to share survival-critical information with now inaccessible neighbouring systems, including blueprints for the new recycling technology. The aim was to help resource-disadvantaged populations, in the hope of receiving important information in return.

This system of mutual information exchange worked so well that many sectors maintained it locally even after Jump Gate connections were restored.
