Cheers Baz! 2 Beam lasers are always better than one!

Anyhoo ... The EDF have tasked me to do missions for LFT 415 to increase our standing with a couple of the factions. There's probably some ulterior motive, but hey, here to serve.

First mission ... Haul a load of goodies to some outpost for the Imperial Navy.

Mission accomplished: 'Thank you Commander, your standing with the Imperial Navy has increased and we are pleased to tell that you have been 'Promoted' ... Wait for it!.......To the Rank of....

SERF. Cheeky bastards! Wink

I must have been pond slime before I got rated up Baz!

Anyhoo ... an enjoyable afternoon of slaughter and murder out at the LFT 415 Nav Beacon.

Do you get increased rep for slotting those miscreants wanted by the faction?

And the new, improved Python (Panty Raider!) is the bees cojones now that I've had all the weapons, shields and general innards upgraded. No doubt there are bigger and tougher ships out there ... but for now, it'll do!

Sacrificed a little bit of jump range in the process of upgrading but I can live with that.

My Python, Kiki Pitts VII, is the best and most durable...I have shoved huge icy asteroids around with the nose of KPVII and incurred even 1% damage. Maneuvers very well for a larger ship...and has room for all the goodies you need to mine, trade, transport or fight.

And it is pretty! Right now she is painted titanium! (First paint job was gold.)

I am also trying out an Anaconda. What a BEAST! It does not handle quickly, almost rammed the Ross walls trying to get out of the station, as it does not slow down well....which is to be expected. Not sure how I feel about that long snout either, but it was fun totally melting ships at the Diaguandri Nav Beacon.

I have not tried mining on land. What ship is best for that?

Safe skies and Moon Pies, Sun. lol

Anything that can land on a planet and have a rover. You just drive around to get materials.

Diamondback Explorer as it can carry an SRV Hangar, has a great jump range and carries a big stick at the front. Some larger ones can carry up to four SRV's. Why I don't know, you can only use one at a time and they're easily mended when they break. Fuel can be readily picked up on the planet surface by mining sulphur, phosphorus etc.

Oh and they're cheap too. This is the most important factor for somebody who is a 'frugal' Yorkie. Me for instance. Wink

Bricks

Usually these 'find' missions are like the proverbial needle in the haystack jobs.......

Not this one ... There were more needles than haystack!

Sent off to find '3 landmines' I get to the site and there's about 200 canisters lying in a big heap with hordes of sentry skimmers buzzing around it. So I piles in as there were literally about 60 canisters showing 'mission requirement'. Anyhoo, after I'd loaded 30 landmine canisters on the ship (A real PITA when you can only shift two at a time ... FDev take note WE NEED A BIGGER SRV!) the mission giver decided that I'd got the 3 he wanted so I dumped the rest and went back to the pile to start cleaning up the goodies. After I'd loaded four desirables the skimmers for no reason suddenly decided that they'd better do their job and have a go at me. Exit stage left PDQ and boarded the ship at high speed being shot up by the skimmers all the time. They even shot up the ship but didn't even scratch the paintwork.

I'm not doing any more bloody landmine recoveries!

Same thing yesterday!

The EDF asked me to recover 3 landmines from an EDF system for the Federal Navy.

No problemo ... goes and picks them up and takes them to the required EDF run station where the Feds picked them up ... only to find I'm a bad boy with a 3000 cr. fine for bringing in illegal items! Honestly! You could not make this up! I'm consequently reduced in Rep (By the bloody EDF!) for doing a mission for them. They did cough up for doing the mission though Confused

And to cap it all ... I got a message from the Federales telling me I'd been promoted to Admiral! Borg

I remain totally confused. Dizzy

KP...just my 1c worth about planet missions etc with the ships you have.....as sinax stated you can use anything that takes a buggy.

but what I have found sometimes is the terrain matters....some surfaces are very rough and trying to land can be a problem landing where you want with one of the big ships....once again the python does the job nicely as you already have one.

If you are playing in open I suggest you dismiss your ship after landing then recall when u want.

also check your inventory for synthisis materials for srv ammo, repair and fuel.

Have a button for up boost to fly over things but especially to right yourself after tipping over....which you will lol

BIG QUESTIONS - very important for me. Please help.

1 - Here is the smaller big one: Is it possible for me to take someone into my ship in Open Play? I.e., could I have one of you guys sitting in my co-pilot's seat while I core mine, and you could see how I do it, or vice versa, I could be in your ship and you could show me how to land mine or whatever?

2 - This is VERY important to me, so here is the huge question: How could I show someone what it is like being in ED by strapping them into the co-pilot's seat and taking them for an impressive joy ride? I am writing a grant on using immersive VR for potential dropout kids to keep them engaged in learning, but you and I know that there is nothing like showing someone what a thrill it is to be in IVR. Can you imagine the experience of taking someone on a ride in your Python who has never experienced immersive virtual reality before? If you were trying to impress someone with the POWER of the experience that would be the way. Help me out. How could I do this?

Not sure KP ... I have enough trouble dealing with actual reality never mind VR!.

Anyhoo ... I'll be disappearing from the radar from 10th June for about 5 weeks as I'm fed up of all this bloody rain!

So it's Jet2 from Leeds-Bradford and off to the ancestral pile in Turkey (Dalaman) for a little R & R, a hell of a lot of gardening and some much needed sunshine. Maybe I'll have the odd tonsil tickler from the Duty Free shop too. It's shorts, flip flops and Efes lager for the next 5 weeks. Play safe, play nice. Smile

PS. Mein Fuhrer isn't coming as she wants to stay home as her mum isn't too good so I'll be out there all on my lonesome. Whatever will I do without her? Fishing tackle and diving gear are in situ already, motor scooter has a full tank of juice and we're wearing sunglasses, let's head for the beach! ... Hit It! Banana Dance

lol SD1 have a great holiday and come back refreshed in more ways than one. Kiki you can have another cmdr in your ship provided that the ship has that capability, I have had a newby on board my corvette and he was able to fly the fighter and help with the Black Box retrieval mission, gave him a good impression of what the game was capable of. The other person has to be a cmdr however so they would have to be able to access an account.

FDev I hate you!

So I find the holy grail we all seek when surface mining, a crashed ship strewn with high value canisters all over the place. Thinking only to safeguard this valuable loo.... erm ... cargo for the heirs of the (presumably) incinerated pilot, I recalled the ship in order to begin moving the loo... erm cargo somewhere for safekeeping whilst I contacted the deceased pilot's relatives.

As my Python was about to land the server had rush of it to the brain and cut me off. I rapidly reopened the game with only the thought of those poor, starving space orphans in mind and seeking that they should claim their inheritance ... ALL GONE. ZILCH, NADA!

Shame on you FDev! Those poor mites will be living on cut price Lidl beans and chips for the foreseeable future now.

In future I recover the highest value canisters before I even think of recalling the Panty Raider for loading. Wink

snigger.. snigger..oops sry SD1, I think it's the way you tell the story, but must admit it would be a buggar.
Have not played much lately but when I have it seemed I had more drop outs than what I usually experienced.

Also make a mess of yourself on your holiday...totally free YAY!
My boss does not come on the fishing trips but she does control me on our flying ones.(to a point ) Smile

JV..thanks for the great explanation, some good info there..I will certainly make note of it for the future.

Happy Holidays, SD1! [In Turkey? Really? Never been there...but all the pictures my son brought back were of strange rock formations and desert.] I am sure you have found a lovely spot or you wouldn't go, right? Have fun!

So, I could not take a friend on a ride in ED just by having an extra headset?
Dang.

Hey, I ordered the Quest and will let you know how it is. No one will tell me if ED is on there yet.

Safe skies, fuel scoopable suns, and moon pies!
